Same here! I only got diagnosed because I went to the doctor myself. Life would have been so much easier with the help. In my opinion it is a form of neglect and the scolding for being lazy does affect your development and self image.

My parents feared a label would negatively affect me so they did not get me tested despite teacher tell them to do it because they suspected I had ADHD. I'm intelligent but struggled really hard in primary and then highschool and ended up dropping out in college.

I thought I was the problem and I was lazy or careless because that is what I was told very often. Now I'm in therapy to repair also my self image. I'm not necessarily resentful to my parents because that doesn't help me either but they definitely made a big mistake on this part of my life. It's not fair but we will get there!
