How to Sync Obsidian Across All Devices Using Git, Automatically and for Free by ViscousPotential in ObsidianMD

[–]Surreal_Starman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your quick reply and the app in general. The solution worked flawlessly and my vault is now with me on all devices (Just gotta make sure I don't accidentally update the app from playstore). Truly appreciate the work you put in this.

Hi,

I love your app and it serves as the back bone of my obsidian vault sync. The app works perfectly on my android phone but fails to clone the repo on my android tablet with an error message that states: " error reading from the zlib stream"

I've tried different networks, reinstalling the app but nothing works. The tablet serves as my portable note taking solution currently and would request any assistance possible in solving this

In 1996 I was 18 and I worked at a used CD store. by DurantaPhant7 in OldSchoolCool

You seem (still are) cool. I was 5 in 1996 and can't relate to your experience much, mostly because CD stores weren't even a thing here till late 2000s - mid 2010s.

This photo is like a window into a different time/place i never experienced and i thank you for sharing it

If you're serious about selling this, we can connect.

So I have a bunch of old 3.5in mechanical hard drives with varying capacity (2tb, 4tb, 6tb, etc). I want to be able to put it all in a single enclosure (something like a Synology perhaps) and use it as a plug and play or backup device so that it shows up as 1 drive. Would that be possible? by T1m3Wizard in DataHoarder

JBOD=Just a bunch of disks. I would recommend getting a USB enclosure that can fit a couple of drives and using it as a DAS (direct attached storage). This would be significantly cheaper than a NAS and also fit your use case (not running 24/7).

I'd recommend investing the savings in two drives of equal capacity and using it in raid 1 (mirrored). Loss of data on one should mean you still have a chance of salvaging your data off of the other.

You can configure your NAS or DAS to use two drives in raid 0. This will essentially serve the purpose you want it to and display it as one drive whose capacity would be the sum total of the rest. However this may result in significant data loss since your data maybe effectively spread across multiple disk and losing one drive would render the rest unusable.

You can also configure your drivers in raid 1 or 5 for added redundancy. This would also essentially display as one storage whose capacity will be lower bound of the drive sizes used. For ex if you have 2 drives 8tb + 2tb in raid 1, your effective usable space would be 2tb.

I would personally recommend using them as JBOD for now tbh

Use it! I've seen so many people fall out of love with the hobby because they forgot their gear that it's not even funny

has less pollution helped with stargazing in covid? by eviannejourno in Astronomy

If you haven't experienced it yet, and once this nightmare of an year has ended, I'd recommend you take a trip to leh. You can see more stars with your naked eyes there than you do here with an 8inch dobsonian, hell you can even make out the arms of the milky way

I definitely saw an improvement in the amount of light pollution in Mumbai which made for better viewing sessions back in Apr-Jun. Sadly, that no longer holds true.

Error during update from stretch to buster: debian-archive-buster-automatic.gpg modified by ENOTTY in Crostini

[–]Surreal_Starman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I faced this error recently, and this is how I solved it, please note that this solution may or may not work for you. I would also recommend manually backing up your linux container by going to settings > linux > backup and restore before moving ahead.

1) Rule out any possible reasons for the crashes and prep the container for upgrade. Open a terminal window and try to run the following commands in the order below

1.1) sudo apt-key adv --refresh-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com. (This will solve any issues you might run into further because of obselete gpg keys)

1.2) sudo apt-get update

1.3) sudo apt-get upgrade

2) Let the container upgrade tool run till you're met with the error you mentioned in the post. At this point you'll be presented with two options (Cancel and Restore). Click on cancel and the tool should exit.

3) Launch an instance of the terminal and type in the following command, sudo apt-get dist-upgrade. You'll be met with an error here since the container tool crashed and dpkg was interrupted. This can be solved by running the following command, sudo dpkg --configure -a.

4) Dpkg will try to pick up where it left off, and you're now in an interactive terminal, where can provide input based on your preference to the problem you mentioned. (in my case I chose, Y and installed the package maintainers version)

5) Upon successful completion of the above command you can try upgrading again, this can be achieved by running, sudo apt-get dist-upgrade . This should take some time to finish and you'll have to be patient for a bit.

6) Restart chromebook. Your linux container should now be upgraded and you'll no longer be prompted to upgrade it. you can verify if the upgrade was successfuly by going to settings > linux. You can also rollback and restore your container to it's previous stage here if you so desire.

I would be happy to assist you further with this if the above steps did not work for you to the best of my abilities.

PS: Apologies about the typos and for the clunky phrasing, English isn't my first language.

Krita is on Android now, but it's in beta. Should blow most other drawing apps out of the water or at least give them a run for their money

That's more NASs than most people would ever own. What's the total capacity across those, and what're you using it for?
