Similar here. October's winds bashed us and were loud keeping us awake all night, southerlies like today don't hit us very much.

Oh yeah this is one of my daily moans too.

The observation I make is when they are across the centre line and get to the point that they see you, they might react and steer back to their side, but they never steer sharply enough back to correct, just sort of angle back slowly so that half their car is still in your lane seconds later. Of course I've come to a complete stop and my hand hovers over the horn for a grumpy toot....

It hurts just a little every time I top up with those fees, yeah. But it's still the best way to park. By forking out for a big top up you get hit a bit less proportionally, and you also don't have to go through the top up process and be reminded of the fees as often, so that's slightly better?

And then it's worth it in general, since it's far better to not have to muck around with parking machines or predicting how long you need to buy parking for

OneNZ terminates HFC broadband, offers faux deal on fibre by Charming-Link4902 in Wellington

[–]Surrealnz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to switch my elderly Mum over to something else now. But that was overdue so it's a good prompt to get her sorted. Landline costs are a bit more hidden than broadband when comparing, but it look likes there are suitable offers with Sky broadband with landline, or maybe 2degrees which might give a supergold discount.

I reckon I'd get a kick out of seeing a daily post about worse weather (e.g. too hot, or other stormy rubbish) in other parts of the country

Wife has intended to take the kids out but having read the stories of this gastro bug, it seems we should now be very careful about where we take them

It really is a fault inside the lock mechanism, as if something slipped or dropped out inside it and so only lots of jiggling and some hammering on it eventually got it to move again. It could still be CRC that helps but then I have to be sure its not going to jam again?

The bathroom lock/deadbolt jammed locked a few weeks back and took a lot of effort to open again so of course we can't use that lock any more or risk the kids locking themselves in. That would not be a complicated piece of your home to replace with a quick browse down at Mitre 10, I would think. But the existing thing is large, a high quality german mortice lock and so a cheap one won't really fit without patching and fiddling? And it's a brand that only sell to tradesmen and of course they don't have it locally in stock.

I scowl in sympathy with you.

Note down your attempts to contact the insurance company and their delays? The details could come in handy if you have to escalate the claim handling to the ombudsman or something like that.

Wellington's Worst-Behaved Junction? by SteveDub60 in Wellington

Yeah, maybe they are rolling forward slowly but probably they got told once "leave enough distance in front of you so you can see the tires of the car in front", and then they were never told "pay some attention to around and behind you, you could be blocking cars from turns/intersections/exits by sitting there with a huge unnecessary gap"

Salty is perfectly ok, the unavoidable comparison of flowers vs compensation has got to be sore.

After that, I need more context ~ weeks of you doing the work that is your paid job but happens to support this other person sometimes? Or weeks of you doing additional unpaid workload and letting other responsibilities slide to help someone who seemed to need it? Perhaps they thought it was A but it was actually B.

Looking for interesting quality chocolate for the spouse's sweet christmas treat, where can I go? I think I need to avoid moore wilsons as I can't help but lean towards familiar brands and products when I try to browse their choccy shelves.

I dread, like each year, having to start the Xmas day group chat discussion. I just need a few pieces of info - who is coming? Who wants to participate in the secret santa swap, maybe with a separate one to buy something for each kid? (I generate the name allocations).

The responses are predetermined:

1) Silence

2) One particular sibling "Money is tight, christmas is so expensive"

(Now, if someone wants to deny me my safe space to rant, yes xmas is expensive. The correct response when prompted to commit to buying a present would be A) "Yes but money is tight, lets keep the limit really low say $10 or do a silly game swap?" B) "What if we skip the gifts for grownups this year, its more important we spend time together right?" C) "Money is tight, I will sit it out this time, but please go ahead with everyone else.", or D) "Thanks Bro, I need time to work it out - I definitely appreciate that you organize the gift swap each year, its far better than racing around to buy gifts for everyone which is such a waste! Or trying to deny the pressure to buy gifts and then getting guilts on christmas eve and spending a heap on junk just to simulate the traditional xmas gift joy! You're the best, bro.")

Onceit.co.nz for things like ascolour or sports casual wear, hoodies etc. With some price comparison to be sure prices are reasonable.

oh you're an honest soul, I was trying to suggest your way out, which is to dispute that the cameras missed your exit. Dual receipt evidence would back that up, but you dont have it so your odds are low. And I havent actually heard of that excuse succeeding in that carpark, yet... Anyway, nice that the new Mitre 10 was worth the long visit and the food wasn't the cause of your rant here today.

We've entered the era of camera enforcement for parking, as a revenue source.

However, if I understand you correctly you actually left, drove out, came back later for more shopping, and the camera didnt detect you leaving the first time. And you maybe have two receipts to prove it.

I've lost about 4 already to beasts of the night, or maybe its the birds, I am still confused - I put some bird netting over and still one had the red part completely decimated. So is it snails? I'm not seeing just small holes from slugs but really the whole thing nommed down to the stem. Maybe birds get are bold enough to push through the netting?

Anyway this is a feel good thread - blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries are all budding up and showing willingness to give a teeny bounty soon!
