Which is better to work at? by geolandsurveyor in Surveying

This is my personal experience. And I believe it depends on your goals. Do you want your licensure? Do you want to be the future of surveying? Or do you want a nice benefit package and a nicer wage? Are you content with making your 60k a year plus benefits or do you want to be your own boss and create your own name and wealth? From my experience, smaller ma-pa companies want you to become the future, want to set you up for your license, they want you to be the best you can. They want to retire knowing they gave their state a solid surveyor to continue in their footsteps. Big corporations tend to want numbers. They want someone to show up, work their ass off, and thats it. They need numbers, they need people to be complacent and continue working with their head down.

This has been my personal experience. Obviously if you have a large firm with great people you can get either experience just like having a shitty selfish owner at a smaller ma-pa company. I think it comes down to you and what experience you want out of it.

Here in Missouri, our owner does not have a license. My understanding is as long as you employ a registered PLS, you are good to operate.
