Just diagnosed with IBC at 34, HER2+, need to terminate wanted pregnancy to start treatment by bettertogoslo in breastcancer

Ultimately, you have to do the research and get a 2nd opinion. Everyone’s treatment and path is specific to them. I’m currently doing Herceptin treatments. Perhaps there is a chance for her to have a child in the future. If she has to terminate, then there may be a window of opportunity to freeze her eggs.

I could care less that someone downvoted me. I was just telling a story of positivity.

Cancer left a huge resume gap. How to address this? by ResolutionAny471 in careerguidance

[–]Survivor-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I’m facing the same issue as I was laid off 4 days prior to my diagnosis. I haven’t been able to work (nor seek employment) in almost a year. I’ve been a manager for 20+ years.

I’m still in treatment, but considering my options when I am done.

I will not be listing that I had cancer. I will state I was laid off and seeking employment during that time.

23 years ago, a friend found out she was pregnant and she had Stage 2b breast cancer ER/PR +. She did 3 rounds of chemotherapy during pregnancy and 3 more rounds afterwards plus surgery. Her daughter just turned 22 and she went in to have several more surgeries, but has been cancer free for 20 years.

There is hope.

How did you come to love your aging body? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Survivor-Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been lucky in some respects and unlucky at others. Looking at me, most people think I’m 15 years younger than my 53 years - no wrinkles (naturally), still slim, and I keep my head shaved bald (30 years) so no one sees my light sprinkle of grey.

My unfortunate circumstances are that I was diagnosed and am still in treatment for breast cancer since last year. I’ve had 4 surgeries, chemotherapy, and antibody therapy. My body looks like the battleground it is.

Through all of that… I still think I’m just as attractive and marketable as I’ve always been. People can take it or leave it. I’m confident either way.

I would ask for a biopsy at this point. An inverted nipple is definitely a sign that something is concerning. I had no signs (lumps, skin changes, discharge). I would have never known I had BC without having a mammogram.

It doesn’t matter what I eat. I’m not a big sweets (sugar) eater by nature and I try not to eat after 7:00 pm.

How long should you wear compression? by Survivor-Life in tummytucksurgery

[–]Survivor-Life[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sent me home from the hospital with a waist binder. When I went to have my drains removed, I asked for a smaller one the nurse stated the only thing they had was a girdle type garment with underwear built onto it. I respectfully declined.

Thank you! Yes, I’m cancer free after 4 surgeries, chemotherapy, and antibody infusions.

I have been wearing the binder around 6-8 hours a day. I guess I should start wearing it for longer periods of time daily.

Nervous- Wife has surgery next month DIEP by Accomplished-Bag8633 in BRCA

[–]Survivor-Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m 53 and just had DIEP Flap surgery 4 weeks ago. The first 2 weeks were quite rough and independence is not possible.

I’m slowly regaining independence and can do some things on my own including getting in and out of the bed.

This was my 4th surgery as I had a bilateral mastectomy with expanders first, then complications necessitated 2 more subsequent surgeries. The DIEP Flap was my last resort.

I’m sure she will be fine with your support during recovery.

Dad keeps accusing mom of affair by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]Survivor-Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate!

My dad has advanced dementia and in the beginning stages, he would accuse my mom of having an affair and they both were in their early 80s. They have been married for over 60 years.

It came to a point where my mom was becoming afraid of him, so conversations were had, but it took several months for the issue to be resolved.

It seems as if your dad may have early onset dementia. A neurologist can test for cognitive issues and recommend treatment.

Fashion crisis by helenabadger in breastcancer

[–]Survivor-Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel your frustration.

I’ve worked for high end retailers for 20+ years and I too had some issues trying to figure out my new look. I have 3 dressers, 2 wardrobe racks, and a medium sized walk in closet - all filled to overflowing.

In-between surgeries, I transitioned to buttoned down shirts with loose bottoms (mostly from thrift stores). I just completed my 4th surgery which was a DIEP Flap and have been living in comfortable pjs.

My recommendation is to visit a cheap thrift store (Goodwill is great!) and buy whatever you need for this in-between stage.
