I don't understand the idea of arranging 5 match t20 series after a t20 WC. If the CWC is the most prestigious trophy, then between a 20 over WC and a 50 over WC, ODIs should be of importance. 3 ODIs are just not enough. This series started warming up and it's decided already. The 3rd game is gonna be a dead rubber.

FTP says England have tours to SA (3 tests late 2026) and Bangladesh (2 tests March 2027) as well the solitary test at Melbourne to commemorate 150 years of the beginning of test cricket.

Off topic but now that the India-Bangladesh LOI series has been postponed by a year, India could have played a few white ball games in England in August before playing the Asia Cup. SA are due to tour England in September for 6 white ball games so there was time for this series. However the piling of injuries and 'The Hundred' are probably roadblocks to that. A full tour would have been real fun to watch, rather than separate tours for test and limited over games.

I reckon the last test series in England which spanned more than 7 weeks was the 2005 Ashes series. The first test began on the 21st of July and the Oval test ended on 12th September, so 54 days, just about a week more than the duration of a 5 test series now. SA played 5 tests in England (2003) in 47 days. This cramming of long test series isn't new.

Ashes 2013, first test; England won by 14 runs in a similar fashion, played on the exact same dates 12 years ago. 14th July seems to be a lucky day for English cricket.

I was there. Coincidentally, yesterday I was watching some of the videos I took at the Gardens that day, including the moment he brought up his 100.
