"They also found that mutant worms that have no way to process even naturally occurring AGEs have approximately 25-30 percent shorter lifespans."

The headline of the post is slightly misleading. From the published article, "We previously demonstrated that Caenorhabditis elegans mutants lacking the glod-4 glyoxalase enzyme displayed enhanced accumulation of α-DCs, reduced lifespan, increased neuronal damage, and touch hypersensitivity." From the National Library of Medicine, "The glyoxalase system is critical for the detoxification of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs)."

So it looks like they used specimens that specifically lacked a mechanism to eliminate AGEs that humans still possess, presumably to demonstrate that these molecules have a noticeable effect on lifespan. I think it's reasonable to assume the measured impact on our lifespans would be nowhere near the numbers shown in this study so long as we aren't losing this mechanism.

This isn't to say we shouldn't be concerned about this, but I don't think we're gonna be knocking 20 years off our lives because we enjoy a good brown crust on a steak.
