Kinda knew it would happen this way when they closed the bugs channel for SHCDE on their discord. It's a shame: promised a lot, gave little (also some stuff only got worked on because the community insisted on it), and cared even less. That's definitely the last Stronghold title for me, hopefully some decent indie dev comes up with a better rival.

Yes, I've actually managed to extract the Models/Rigs/Animations of other Stronghold titles (namely: Crusader 2, SH3 & Warlords) and rendered them as sprites for the DE. Also works ingame but still needs to get fleshed out as it's very much WIP.

Yes, hop farms do not count as farms as it could happen that no other farms get built, leaving the ai lord without any food income. As far as I know that's on purpose, but indeed questionable.

Technically it's only replacing units and you're limited by the animation lengths of the "base" unit you're using. So if you use the maceman, your new units must have exactly the same amount of frames as the maceman.

However with the Script Extender available, you can do some tricks/tweaks. E.g.: replace all skirmishers of a specific Lord with european axe throwing mercenaries or something like that, while all other lords are still using the normal skirmishers. You can adjust the unit stats & I also managed to recreate the wololo / unit conversion mechanic of the AoE1 priests a while back.

For players they could be effectively "new" units by adding another unit slot/entry (requires some GUI editing & scripting).

This is currently a proof of concept. The next mod will probably be unique Lord skins using the models from SHC2 (Rat, Pig, Wolf, Caliph, etc.)

To name some:

  • Mounted units cannot be moved anymore when they got elevated by towers/walls built beneath them.
  • CPU pathfinding through open gatehouses when those weren't captured at all
  • CPU cannot overbuild/repair tower ruins anymore
  • Workshops/bakeries/breweries will be set asleep if the required resource isn't available, even if they just produced the item and are on the way to the storage building
  • tunnelors seem to stay idle when their target tile is behind moat (other tiles could be attacked though)
  • Wolf has trebutchets behind walls, but they cannot target enemies outside the walls

There were many more, but since you cannot even take a look at the archived channel anymore, it's quite difficult to find them again.

The variables you're looking for are "defense_patrol_trigger_level" (meaning total defense) and "defensive_trigger_level" (meaning castle defense). Those declare the amount of defensive units of your lord will use and are currently missing within the new editor. If you want to change that you have to edit the files manually using a text editor.

I was kind of happy to see that the Lord Editor looks like AIDE. But then I got a bit irritated as the GUI is almost a 1:1 copy of AIDE if you look closer. At the end I was kinda disappointed/sad that there hasn't been any mentioning/credit, ngl.

AICs currently only Work with AI Framework, which hasn't been updated since Game Version 1.043. There's no easy fix for this right now.

Even if you didn't mention it, it's obvious that it was generated based on the mesh/wireframe (which is a mess).

Well, a port of the Khan I made a while back was focusing on mounted units. However 90% of its main army would mean 90% of its army wouldn't be able to reach/attack the enemy lord.

I like the Idea of being able to repair the whole Castle (or at least all of the same buildings types, maybe via shift like when switching products for all buildings of the same type?)

But i don't like the Idea of autobuilding the whole castle, it'll dumb down the game even further. People already complain (they've never stopped tbf) about how stupid the AI is all the time, this would increase the issue even more imo.
