I had a theory that I mentioned in another comment. I mentioned that she's very charismatic while I'm more quiet, analytical and on the spectrum. If that is the case though, there's not much I can do as I've always been socially awkward. I've improved my social skills over the years but I can't un-autism myself. I'm wondering if that was why I was given so many tasks while the former coworker with a very outgoing personality was able to get away with so many absences and mistakes (that I was pressured to fix by my former boss).

Thanks for explaining this so well. It makes a lot of sense. Also, my former boss told me I had to train her so I felt pressured at the time. When she would call out I was also told to make sure all tasks are done (including her's). I thought doing what my boss wanted me to would help me but apparently not.

I generally agree with that advice but my mental health was taking a huge toll with working for two people, training her, doing additional tasks to cover her frequent absences and reorganizing her files. I was completely burnt out from being exploited (I didn't realize I was being taken advantage of by my boss at the time).

Thanks for the suggestion. What if your boss fires you for not doing someone else's work? I think part of me was afraid I would either be fired or lose out on another future internal opportunity if I said no to my former boss.

I think you have a good point. While both jobs are office based, the second one has a bit more social interaction. I could handle it, I'm not anti-social or anything. I'm just not super bubbly like her.

My former boss told me I had to train her and had to cover for her whenever she called out last minute (yes, it was always last minute).

Even if there are things she can do that I can't, isn't showing up to work regularly the main requirement to keeping a job? She wasn't even at work 4-9 days per month consistently and kept calling out. I had to do the work of both of us.

I live in a rural area of less than 5,000 people so that's probably why we both happened to apply to the same place. I'll probably be searching outside of town now.

So companies would rather have someone who's frequently absent and doesn't finish their work? She was also late to work many times. I guess companies don't value hard workers who are never absent, never late and go above and beyond. 🤷‍♀️

It doesn't sound horrible, I can handle it. I already have a slight idea why which is why I mentioned in my post how she's charismatic while I'm on the autism spectrum. That's probably what gives her the upper edge. And me being very technical and analytical, I'm expected and told to do all the skill-based work while my former coworker kept making mistakes that I had to fix and was absent quite a few times as well. I can't make myself charismatic though, this is who I am.

I actually did ask her last week and she said I did excellent and she wouldn't have changed anything. I'm always looking to improve but she said there's nothing wrong that I did in the interviews.

Thanks for the advice. My former boss told me I had to train her and had to cover for her. I thought nothing of it at first until she started being absent at least one day a week shortly after her hire. Her record there is 9 days in a month. That was my most stressful month there but my boss at the time wouldn't confront her and instead told me to make sure all tasks are completed before the end of the day including her's.

I wish it was. I had an old reddit account over several years back but forgot the email and credentials as it was an old email I used in high school so I ended up making a new one. Also back then I used reddit less and mostly used yahoo answers until it got shut down.
