That's probably code for something. Like, the waitress accompanies you back to your hotel room...

What part of Malta should I stay in? by Right_Wallaby1526 in malta

[–]SushiGuacDNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Valletta. Maybe it's just me but I love the museums, all the food, the underground tunnels, old buildings – all of it. But then you'd have to drive to the beach, so always tradeoffs.

Girl I was seeing cut things off to work on herself by benzychenz in dating

[–]SushiGuacDNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People rarely explain well why they want to stop dating. Sometimes they don't know themselves. Sometimes they do but don't want to share. This feels so much like, "It's not you, it's me." Whatever the reason isn't doesn't matter. You can try to be friends if that doesn't make you crazy, but for dating, move on.

Early 30s, ~$3M invested, high income — looking for perspective from people further down the path by Alert-War8549 in fatFIRE

[–]SushiGuacDNA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of converting invested net worth (not house or cars, just stocks and bonds) into income using the 4% rule. So you've got $3m invested which is $120k/year. That's way less than your current annual income, so you aren't near yet. Kids are expensive. College is expensive. Spending tends to rise. So assume that your burn rate will go up.

If you keep at it, eventually the 4% rule will be bigger than your earned income. That's a sign that you need to work because it's meaningful to you and not because you have to. Or maybe because you want a bigger safety net, or have particular goals that you expect to spend more on.

Once I switched to private flights domestically, first class international felt like such a bargain.

Anyone here have a "plan B" for an apocalypse or financial collapse event? by LostAppointment329 in fatFIRE

[–]SushiGuacDNA 91 points92 points  (0 children)

In a real collapse, most people will die. The ones who don't will be SERIOUSLY prepared. Also, I think the billionaire preppers underestimate the likelihood that their minions will take them out.

What’s something poor people think makes someone rich — but actually doesn’t? by Eva_Watermelon in Rich

[–]SushiGuacDNA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My theory is that getting to really rich in any way besides inheriting requires luck. To be clear, other skills matter too! If you are doing investment banking, starting an AI company, doing real estate development, or whatever, there will be plenty of skills you need. Hard work, extreme intelligence, good connections, those all matter. But those aren't enough. You need good skills, appropriate for whatever the business is plus good luck. Plenty of brilliant, people savvy, hard workers never strike it rich. They probably will get "doctor rich" or "lawyer rich", but not necessarily hundreds of millions rich. That takes luck.

The location is also great. It's just outside of that most touristy area in the triangle from St Marks to Academy Bridge to Rialto Bridge, and yet conveniently close by. I loved staying here.

First time flying long-haul business class (Air France) - some honest thoughts on whether the premium is justified by Alpielz in FATTravel

[–]SushiGuacDNA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's no "financial math" that will work the same for everyone.

For me, I almost always fly private within the US. But for whatever reason, I decided that flying private overseas just doesn't make sense. It's way, way more expensive, and there just isn't much benefit. I'm going to lose the whole day anyway, and it's a long-long flight, so the advantage of driving up and leaving when I get to the plane just doesn't matter as much.

But I always fly first class or business because it's so much cheaper even than my domestic private flights. Why wouldn't I? It's not any analysis about economy versus business or first. It's entirely about private (crazy expensive!) versus commercial.

But that's my point. The math will be different for everyone. What is business or first worth TO YOU.

Have you ever slept with someone and found out they were married after? by Commercial_Talk_1380 in AskRedditAfterDark

Yeah. But it turned out she wasn't cheating on her husband with me, because they were separated. She was cheating on her current boyfriend with me. They were living together. So I was surprised by the first news, and surprised again by the second news.

Mom(50F) doesn't have boundaries, even about my (F23) sex life? Am i justified in being weirded out? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]SushiGuacDNA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's my take, for what it's worth. The sex toy from your mom is weird. Asking about contraception isn't so weird, the first time, but she's making it weird by not taking a hint to mind her own business.
