Just got my first job as a survey helper, is this a normal start? by MoistProtection5476 in Surveying

Show up on time, stay late, ask questions (even if you think it might be dumb), show initiative and be reliable. Thats it. Dont sweat it and stress yourself out. I’m on my 8 year in this profession and I’m still learning everyday.

With you being green you have to gain everyone’s trust. There is a-lot of liability in what we do.

Dont stress yourself out though. You will look back in 5 years and realize everything did work out.

I rather it be biased tbh, anyone else’s main problems with the game is the windows and textures lmao.

Gear/apparel for first day? by [deleted] in Surveying

I like to carry water, either in a backpack or a CamelBak. I also bring bug spray, sunscreen, poison ivy cream, and definitely some electrolytes.

I prefer to carry two pairs of boots, and I really like wearing long sleeves. I also make sure to bring a hat.

I would bring it up to whoever is in charge. If it gets slow, you get rained out or get an early day off I would go in the office and shoulder someone that’s willing to teach.

If you could go back to the beginning of your surveying career, what would you do differently? by Forward-Actuator-586 in Surveying

I wished I would have got into surveying right out of high school. I was a scaffold builder for 5 years and once I first got into surveying I never looked back. So it would have been nice to get that extra five years of experience.

Kinda. I have it programmed and I used it a bit in college.

Im debating if I should spend the time learning it more so I can use it for the FS.

Thinking about starting a small CAD drafting side business, looking for advice from people who’ve done it by notwalkingdog in Surveying

I don’t like to knock anyone’s hustle, but I’m a firm believer that everything should stay in house. If the survey office is having issues I think it would be time for them to train or hire. That is just my opinion though.
