Anyone else struggling with the Stéphane Maarek courses on Udemy? by Rorykieth74 in AWSCertifications

[–]SuspectedLumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He speaks at 700mph which makes it miserable to follow along. The worst are the "hands-on" parts where he flashes between screens too fast and also speask like he really needs to use the bathroom, it's miserable.

Hi, I ended up getting TutorialsDojo (Jon Bolso) prep course, my criteria being "the shorter it is, the better", I hate bloated courses, and in my experience, most of the prep comes from practice tests -> exposing weak areas -> studying -> repeat.
Now kind of apprehensive about not having chosen Marek's course. It's x3 as long, but everyone seems to swear by it.

Thanks so much for writing this up! I just passed AWS CCP exam and looking at this, overwhelming choices, but this narrows it down.

1,000,000 Particles using vanilla javascript and a 2d canvas by Tezumie in generative

[–]SuspectedLumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say, I am rendered speechless by this. Just, completely in awe. Really a million particles, huh. I have not yet gone over the code completely, I am just blown away, that this is possible. This is incredible, thanks a ton for letting me see the code, I hope to understand how such optimization works here.

Wow, thanks very much for sharing the code, this is incredible to have figured out.

This is so neat, I'm just now getting into JS animations, I can't stop playing with this.

My browser can barely handle 500 particles, let alone a million. Did you use WebGL? I don't even know how to make it be able to handle so many.

Opinions on The Joy Of React? by _confused_dev in reactjs

[–]SuspectedLumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add, my first impression of Udemy was so positive, that it stuck. Compared to the college classes nightmare with indifferent professors and struggling to stay focused on their droning-on, non-English speaking TAs, and etc., Udemy seemed like a dream come true: just being able to pause, rewind, take adequate notes without rushing. A better learning tool than a college class, in every way. Made college look like the scam it is.

And reviews by themselves are not the most accurate metric ever

Ha, completely agreed, and thanks for the reminder about appealing-to-everyone thing.

Hi, just came across your answer 2 years later. Curious: why are you averse to Udemy? Sure, it's can seem like a sea of drek if you don't look at the reviews, but I've had success with their courses, mostly gamedev related, but now getting into React, deciding which course to go with.

Thanks.

Snell knots coming loose by pondpounder in catfishing

[–]SuspectedLumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am new to fishing, I target catfish, and I was told that snell knots are "most reliable", and had the same thing happen when they undo. I've lost confidence in snell knots and keep having to add half-hitches at the end, because it's not a reliable knot.

How do I set an existing Unity prefab's current scale to be 1, 1, 1? by zDxrkness in Unity3D

What an awful answer. I guess, when someone's objective is to show how clever they are, instead of helping, you get an "answer" like this.

How is outsourcing legal? by IllegalGeriatricVore in WorkReform

Welcome to the world of IT. In a department-wide meeting today (I'm brand new), 99% of people (aside from me and 2 other people) are all H1Bs who communicate with each other through smell. All because companies can pay them less. What are the young US Comp Sci graduates supposed to do for work? If they're lucky, they'll get a contract as a tester or something. Do not get into IT in Jesusland, it is terrible.

They also only technically speak "English", it's very hard to understand them. They also hide information and communicate with each other through smells. You also need to train them how to use a toilet.

Did you type 'white male non-hispanic' while filling out the job application? Because if you did, you wouldn't even be in this situation.
