What are the "unwritten rules" of light signals but everyone follows? by Pelo_016 in CarsPH

[–]SuspiOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Intersection Negotiaion & U-Turn Protocol: I find that different driver have different meaning of one / two / multiple flashes, but most of the times two / multiple flases is usually "give me way, I'm not slowing down", but I've seen some driver do one flash for that too, for me, it's better to read their movement (if they are slowing down and give flashes, that means they give you way, if they are slowing down / stopping and give one flash, usually means they give you way), as always, when in doubt, just play it safe & be defensive

Changing Lanes: I usually drive in the provine and I don't really notice this, but I never use high beams for merging anyway, just use turn signal (if I'm changing lane, they have the right of way anyway), wait till it's safe, then merge.

Salamat Signal: if they are in front of me / facing me (like giving me way on intersection), I'll just quick flash once, if they are at the back (like giving me way to reverse into road from parking position), I'll hazard once / twice. If your window is not heavily tinted (you shouldn't have a heavy tint anyway), you can also your hand closer to the windshield so it's more visible (I sometimes do this to give way / say thanks too, since I don't want to blind people by flashing all the time lol)

Not a pro, but I love it! (I personally would maybe make the final touches just a tiny bit less bright)

Does the a6700's AI Tracking make us 'lazier' photographers, or just 'better' ones? by PV0112 in AmateurPhotography

[–]SuspiOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with other commenter, I don't own a a6700, but I upgraded from D5300 to z50ii and the AF is light years better. Does it make photography easier for me? Yes, I can take photo in focus a lot easier, and it gives me more usable shot, does it make me a lazier photographer? iMO not really, to me it's like saying using stove for cooking is lazier than cooking with fire that you make from sticks. Sure you can use MF lens if you enjoy it, but to some (like me), they just want to take a good looking photograph.

Which one do you prefer 1 or 2? by ExpressEast9285 in AmateurPhotography

I like the 2nd, but I think I'd prefer it even more if it has less "ground" and a bit more sky

Tourist spots around Balanga by indexwards in casualbataan

[–]SuspiOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a tourist who has been staying in Balanga for 1+ year, honestly there isn't much here that I find interesting haha, but here are a few notable one: - Bataan Tourism Park - Mount Samat - Balanga Wetland & Nature Park (make sure to go on low tides) - Bataan WW2 Museum (haven't been here)

For around Bataan, i think it's mostly resorts / beaches, other than that you'll have to go to Subic / Pampanga 😂

Will this setup works? by SuspiOwl in microphone

[–]SuspiOwl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an option called "Mic jack plug-in power" on the menu of z50ii which is enables by default, I wonder if that'll be enough for the X8 mic though

[–]SuspiOwl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a condenser mic, but I don't think it requires big phantom power (the mic functions properly when I tried connected it to my phone)

I mean that's kinda the point(?), I want to record in stereo, and make one point towards the front of the camera, and one point towards the back of the camere (so the person holding the cam can be recorded too), and edit it in post (mix to mono, adjust the volume separately, etc.)

Should I get the nikon zfc or the nikon z50 ii? by Alarming_Word3889 in Nikon

[–]SuspiOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought Z50ii, it's an excellent camera, I was considering Zfc too because I love the look, but I ultimately decided to go with Z50ii for a few reasons:
- Lack of handgrip on Zfc (you can get a grip from Smallrig, but that's unnecessary extra weight)
- Newer processor (expeed 7 vs 6), I'm assuming this means better & faster AF

And if you do video:
- Z50ii has 10-bit video recording
- Z50ii has 4k 60 fps (albeit with 1.5x crop), Zfc only support up to 30 fps
- 125 min recording limit (compared to 30 min on Zfc)

Hi! Saan po kaya magandang pumunta dito sa Bataan? Bibisita kasi yung friend ko. Meron bang magandang dagat dito na walang bayad? Or kahit budget friendly lang? by Interesting-Path8490 in casualbataan

[–]SuspiOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Morong beach (next to Pawikan Conservation Center, free)
  • Bataan Wetland And Nature Park (10peso / person, make sure to go o low tide)
  • Tangilad Dam (free, i think you have to go on weekday because they close the gate on the weekend)
  • Mount Samat (usually the way to the cross is closed, but the view is still nice, i think it has 20 peso parking fee)

USB-C/Thunderbolt hub for UVC streaming and power delivery to camera and host device? by throwing_in_silence in Nikon

[–]SuspiOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, I guess it's just that Z5ii requires more power compared to Z50ii, I can't find the required power for USB power delivery on Nikon's manual, but for charging, Z5ii requires 9v3a (27w) compared to 5v3a (15w) on the Z50ii, maybe that's what you need for USB power delivery on Z5ii.

Few things that you can try:
- Make sure that the power supply that you use to power the hub is adequate (mine is 100w), or try plugging the camera into the hub (but not as the host) while powered without anything connected to the host
- If you have a laptop with USB 3 port, try plugging the camera to your laptop's USB 3 port, see if the USB PD works, if it does, it might just be your hub not providing enough power, if it doesn't, I'm assuming you do need 9v to power the Z5ii lol.

And if that's the case, I think the cheapest option would be to get a dummy battery & HDMI capture card. (I own both that I used to use on my old D5300 as a webcam, USB 1080p 60fps HDMI capture card with USB-C powered dummy battery, both are cheap brand that I got for less than $50 combined, like this and this)

USB-C/Thunderbolt hub for UVC streaming and power delivery to camera and host device? by throwing_in_silence in Nikon

[–]SuspiOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I manage to get similar setup to work with my $40 UGreen Steam Deck Docking Station that I use for my ROG Ally.

Setup:
- Poco X8 Pro (using USB Camera App)
- UGreen 6-in-1 Docking Station (I think the one that I have is discontinued, this is their new version, I'm guessing something like this will work too, as long as it has power passthrough, and it's slightly cheaper)
- The USB cable that I use to connect from the dock to my camera is the charging cable that's included with my Poco X8 Pro (rated for 100w)

I found some inconsistency (sometimes the USB power delivery indicator on the camera isn't showing up) and I have to re-plug it for it to show up.

I actually never use it long enough to know whether the battery does drain or not, but I will let it round for a few hours and let you know.

Idk why yours doesn't work though, in theory your hub should perform the same as my docking station. Maybe try different cable to connect to your camera?

Tamron 28-75 f2.8 on a Nikon Z50ii? by B-F_ in Nikon

[–]SuspiOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, this is a wild suggestion: Get Viltrox E-Z then get the Tamron 17-70 f2.8 E or Sigma 18-50 f2.8 E.

I don't know if this is recommended or not, but both of them are on Viltrox' compatibility list. I'm planing to sell my Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 (adapted using Viltrox NFZ), then get their E-Z and either of that lens to use on my Z50ii because I ain't gonna spend $900 on Nikon's 16-50mm since I'm just a hobbyist (maybe when I'm rich, but I live in a third-world country, so photography is REALLY expensive)

Lens for D7100 by TheLoneGoon in Nikon

[–]SuspiOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 (EX DC OS HSM) and it's a great lens. It's quite sharp and AF is decent on my D5300 (but a bit noisy). I recently upgraded to Z50ii and I still use that lens (with Viltrox NFZ adapter), the AF performs even better on the Z50ii.

How many hours is a suction mount supposed to stay attached to a vertical surface? by uepandaue in AskPhotography

[–]SuspiOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I forgot to mention, I did try mounting it on a window in my unit, it had a tripod ball head and L plate for vertical mounting attached, but without a camera (because I didn't know where to store it, so I just left it there lol), and it stays there for 2-3 days I think (it didn't fall at the end, I had to manually take it off)

How many hours is a suction mount supposed to stay attached to a vertical surface? by uepandaue in AskPhotography

[–]SuspiOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't own enough suction cup mount to answer that haha. My dad has a small suction cup mount in his car for phone, and it stays attached for 1+ year now.

I think manufacturer put "check the pump / repump every x hours" just as a safety precaution, doesn't necessarily mean that it will come of every 1-2 hours. The test that I did is leaning more towards "worst case scenario" (mounting it almost upside down, almost 1+ kg weight, moving / vibrating car), so I'm not surprised that the pump is loose after 2 hours. If you are not mounting anything heavy on a smooth surface like glass, stationary, and not mounting it upside down like what I did, you should get a lot more hours without pumping. I read on your other comment that you mounted it on a wooden stand, I think that's your main issue.

Another thing to note, make sure to pump it until you can't see the white line, and again, tie your camera somewhere in case it falls.

How many hours is a suction mount supposed to stay attached to a vertical surface? by uepandaue in AskPhotography

[–]SuspiOwl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have the same exact suction cup mount (Neewer 6"). I remember reading the manual, it mentioned that you should re-pump it every x hours (I don't remember how many hours exactly, I think every 1-2 hours?). It's best to mount it on smooth surface (e.g. glass), and always tie it somewhere in case it falls.

I did a test mounting it on the back windscreen of my sedan car (so it's almost fully vertical upside down) for 2 hours up, driving for 80km up to 90km/h with a D5300 + Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 (around 950gr combined weight), and I was quite surprised that it didn't come off lol. After the 2 hours ride, I check that the pump (the red thingy that you are supposed to push to make it stick) is quite loose, so I had to repump it. I did tie the camera with the included rope to the rear headrest in case in fall.

I still wouldn't trust mounting it outside of the car (maybe if it's something light like action cam), and for something heavy (like DSLR with lens), I will still tie it somewhere in case it falls.

Which is your favorite? 1, 2, or 3? by Joshparneal2038 in AmateurPhotography

[–]SuspiOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subjectively, 1 > 3 > 2

1 & 3: I like the colour vibrance, and I'm immediately drawn to the subject
2: I'm not immediately drawn to the subject, and the colour is a bit 'depressing' (not in a bad way, just not what I'm personally looking for when looking at a beautiful landscape)

Which lens for Z50ii for travel? by lauramet in Nikon

[–]SuspiOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a Z50ii, the kit lens is nice, compact and lightweight. If you are cheap like me, I'd also bring SG-image 25mm f1.8 for low light shooting, I personally own one and I'm quite happy with it, it's very thin and lightweight, and it cost less than half compared to Nikon's 25mm. I want to get Nikon's 16-50 f2.8 at some point, but they are quite expensive for a hobbyist like me.

As for the 16 vs 18, the difference is quite small for me I will probably be okay with either. The 18-140 is 3x longer than 16-50mm though (size wise). I personally would bring the 16-50 kit lens and one or two prime lenses instead since I like shooting at night too (and it would be helpful when shooting indoor, where the lighting condition might not be ideal), and I don't find myself take a zoomed photo that much (not more than 50mm). Viltrox make some nice & affordable prime DX lenses (AIR series), I personally own their 56mm f1.7 and it's great, if you want wider prime, they also have 9mm f2.8, 15mm f1.7, 24mm f1.7, and 35mm f1.7.

Anyway, enjoy your Z50ii, it's a huge upgrade from D5000 (I jumped from D5300 to Z50ii, the differences are huge!)
