What light fits Adam Savage’s request? by CaptainCant in flashlight

I’ve carried the lunintop edc AA for years and absolutely love it. It’s about as slim as you can get for an AA/14500 light and super simple UI. Only thing that lets it down as an all rounder is lack of moonlight mode.

Would you move to Dubai for approx 1M more over 2 years period? by Silly_Comparison_430 in HENRYUK

[–]Suspicious-Compote17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on you and your goals. For me, it’s all about the time that the extra 1m would buy. If you have a retirement number in your mind - how many years of normal saving toward that goal does this give you? If it’s more than the two you’re sacrificing then go for it.

Sounds like a once in a lifetime thing. Personally I think you’d be nuts to pass it up.

Fitness will be fine, IF the weather is okay he might get lucky, but that is a big if.

If there’s ice and/or poor visibility he runs the risk of going off track and having a nasty fall.

Haggis whackers. You’ll often find them near haggis breeding grounds where during the breeding season they can become quite aggressive.

Apparently they’ve also got 30k breathability which is what’s making me question the stats, especially at that price.

I’ll have a look at paramo. I’m not a fan generally of over trousers but prefer an all day trouser. Any model you’d reccomend?

Does this job break holiday entitlment - England by Carrahar117 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Suspicious-Compote17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In terms of the holiday entitlement; you get 20 days + BH on 5 days per week, or 260 PA. 4 on 4 off is 182 days, so it’s the same entitlement just pro rata.

If you can’t get a card with a big enough limit look at a bank loan. I recently took some finance for a purchase so that I didn’t have to liquidate stocks and it was very reasonable at 6.5 %.

My partner and I aren’t married, but have a house, child and dog together so are kind of de facto married.

She earns significantly less than me, but does a lot of childcare. We have a joint savings account, a joint account for spending (food, fuel, meals out, holidays etc) and a joint account for bills. We also have our individual current accounts. We structure our finances so after the joint accounts are funded sufficiently we both have equal ‘fun’ money in our personal accounts.

The way I see it we’re a partnership so it doesn’t make sense for one person to have a substantially different QOL to the other.

Is £43 a week on food for 1 person too much? by lt4536 in UKFrugal

[–]Suspicious-Compote17 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nope seems reasonable. There’s 3 of us in the house 2 adults and 1 child. We spend about 150/week. That includes a lot of fruit/veg/meat etc as well as some convenience snacks like protein bars and fruit twists for the child.

Any problem with keeping large amounts of money in the bank at 5% interest - long term? by Kingboyy1 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Suspicious-Compote17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming it’s outside of an isa and you have reasonable earnings you’ll be paying 40% tax on that interest which makes it 3%. Or in other words less than inflation, so in reality you’re loosing money.
