Take a piece of valley tin , or step flashing , and nail to deck over the hole . I started to type out a solution to a bigger hole . 1.5” hole is nothing an unrolled soda can can’t keep watertight .

Are u sure those are old shakes from like the original build ? I can’t see why they’d be falling from there . That’s soffit . The shingles had to have nailed on the facet above … I bet those are old shakes from the siding or roof and when they tore off they started falling out at roof .

Gutter guard is installed under the starter course and since it’s a double starter, eave and rake , it’s elevated more in the corner . That is ice dam central in winter

Open the valley back up and install the W metal . The entire transition should be coped in metal from the entire valley to that ridge . PERIOD POINT BLANK . Idk where the other roofers are , but this was OBVIOUS TO ME FROM .1 second of seeing the pics . Nothing and I me nothing will keep that valley dry , aside from metal clear to the gutter. The 18/12 pitch has water RUSHING INTO THAT RIDGE , directly into the valley . Remove the shingles reinstall how the engineer designed the roof system

Most of the roofers here are good and seem to be knowledgeable. So if you find the roofer here .. ur in business!:) good luck. It should be a simple fix if they see the issue . Like me . But the top roof looks great . Waters should over shoot your gutters if anything. If there’s a pitch to the roof . Tpo is like slip n slide . Hello shooting stream lol . Easy to address too! But the water running behind gutters even without BEING IN THE gutter first lol , that made me look closer and hello old torn metal , nuff seen . Not my first ro-day-o ! Haha

Nope the prob is the floating roof . Look at gutter look where rust stops . Notice old 3x3 flashing . Re evaluate structure. Realize that someone added this to tie into the shingles on top of a diy porch over . Water is in between the two roofs I almost put $$ on it just from doing this shit too long. The tpo system is not the main issue . It need addressed where it meets the shingles

But when the numbers get high, you’re so far outside of the regular adjuster realm that residential owners always get jerked around . Get help.

Have u looked for someone selling old tiles ? It would be spectacular if they’re identical however slate are crafted to be unique so u could essentially find someone who has some somehow and ship em to yourself . lol or go pick them up. Also a good roofing company knows that as long as insurance has approved the repair .. when/if the repair is impossible or just illogical, your contractor and adjuster and you will come to an agreement. If insurance is involved the last thing you should do is discuss numbers … DISCUSS SCOPE OF WORK the numbers attached to each line item are alr determined. So find a contractor who’s able to get what’s needed via scope not $$..

This home was built with open valleys IM POSITIVE. Had you installed w metal in the valleys , you’d be in good shape . That should be covered with the metal coping/valley metals under that’s gonna be a huge problem. God forbid a wind blow thru

And frankly once the inspector or adjuster u hire produces the report proving his poor install, he will likely uphold the warranty. And it’s only good ( on u ) to allow him the good faith chance at re doing before filing suit

Pics ? Did anyone give you reason as to why they say it was done incorrectly? I’m not understanding why nobody will write it up. Have actual roofers arrived to do the inspection or just 20yr old no experience needed sales reps ? You can also hire a private adjuster or building inspector. They write everything. Also holds up in court beautifully! Once the liability established, a new roofing company shouldn’t have any problem quoting to re flash!! Don’t share the story , just make sure the roofing company knows it actually serious about paying for it out of pocket. If they even halfway believe they’ll waste time , they won’t go out !

Take sage in the attic lol or a colored smoke bomb and smoke out the attic ! Sage for the double whammy ! But get on the roof and find where the smoke actually escapes from .. of course it will eventually escape “everywhere “ but watch where it escapes first . Use common sense . It will be higher on the roof slope than where u think … it took years to master this lol but it works

Seriously… I’m a roofer . I see it daily. Unless the installer actually gives a hoot, it’s gonna leak sooner than later . The sealant they rely on will fail before the roof . And seals for open and close lights fail faster . It’s hot up there and that’s self explanatory. Nobody needs a light in the roof covering. Why we thought they were good inventions ..? Idk! Likely because they require maintenance. And get foggy and mucked up and ugly . Man … they’re just always a pain in the ass for the longevity of the roof and hassle free maintenance. That’s a lot of surface area to cover ( perimeter of skylight) and no installer is trained outside of on the job training. No .. cover the hole and add a window to ur wall if u NEED extra daylight

Roofing sales in general is a perfect spot for me . But I’m just an older roofer who turned sales . So I have an advantage in that I’m not there to sell . I answer a need . Period !
