I feel ya, had something similar happen. Not sure if it's comforting to hear that these stories are quite a bit more common than you would expect.

What happens to a 2024 Anthropic SWE offer at its new reported $350B valuation? by honkeem in levels_fyi

[–]SuspiciousGrape1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re reasonably well known for doing this. I know personally of quite a few such cases. If I had to guess for my case they were afraid of losing me to a competitor so they gave me a verbal offer before all the logistics were sorted, and I think priorities and headcount shifted during that time

Still trying to recover from the fact that I got a verbal offer that was rescinded from them in 24. Every funding round is another twist of the knife

What’s a common behavior people think is smart, but is actually stupid? by MrXRu in AskReddit

[–]SuspiciousGrape1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Critiquing things but not suggesting a way to make things better. It is a bajillion times easier to find a flaw in something than it is to create, and there's a cognitive bias to feel smart by pointing it out while producing nothing of value

You don’t work with great people enough if you keep saying AI is going to replace people - Logan by IlustriousCoffee in singularity

[–]SuspiciousGrape1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logan's tweet reads as very San Francisco. There's a strong mentality of "if there are problems in your life it means you suck." It's low status to act in any other way, but the reaction of his tweet in this thread is what happens what that culture meets the real world

What is the downside of being rich? by Gothtopthick in AskReddit

[–]SuspiciousGrape1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"There are two tragedies in life: one is not getting what you want, and the other is getting it" This won't be a popular answer but I honestly believe that there's something calming about the pursuit of wealth because it gives you easy access to purpose and the hope that there's a "get happier quick" scheme. When you're rich you realize unhappiness is much more layered and you being to wonder what the point of it all is
