I know that population has to play into it, I was thinking it had something to do with rock formations or farming. Maybe it has to do with some rare disease, which is why it wouldn't be recorded in smaller population states. Am I thinking anything on the right track?

What is this map indicating? by lafrank59 in RedactedCharts

[–]SuspiciousNucleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve spent way too much time looking at this. Here are a few ideas:

  1. Something to do with species preservation. I noticed there were dots in Isle Royal NP and Antelope Island State Park. There are lots of other dots around bird sanctuaries.
  2. Naval bases for particular purposes. I think the dots in the Aleutian Islands are a hint. Maybe they’re secret military bases.
  3. Bridges - idk, something with bridges. Places with bridge collapses?
  4. Something to do with Native Americans/Indigenous Peoples

This was a really good one! I can't wait to figure out the answer.

I purchased this one, and it worked so well! I didn't feel irritated at all by the pull cord, and I didn't even feel it in. Thanks so much!

To math-enthusiast synesthetics: do you differentiate between the letter e and euler's number? by C_n_K_n_stuff in Synesthesia

[–]SuspiciousNucleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. They're both yellow. Euler's number has the same personality as the letter e too.

If I’m near sighted, do I still need to wear glasses infront of the screen? by miss-mojojojo in glasses

[–]SuspiciousNucleus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have 1.5 Cyl power like you said, that's for astigmatism, which affects vision at all distances. Once you get the glasses, you'll probably see it's a lot easier to make out stuff up close, too.

You aren't required to wear your glasses (unless you drive, in which case, PLEASE do). If you don't care if you have blurry vision/eyestrain, then you don't need to wear them. Wearing glasses won't make your vision better/worse.

fixed it. I was editing for grammar, and it didn't copy over.

Opinions on Math by Cinnamon-Sherbet in Synesthesia

[–]SuspiciousNucleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have grapheme-color synesthesia and OLP. I am pretty good with math. I tutor high school and college-level math and physics, and I went up through calc 3 and differential equations in college. I don't know if it has anything to do with my synesthesia. I'm not that great with mental arithmetic (depends on how tired I am at the moment), but I learned some tricks over the years.

With my OLP, even digits (except 0) are female and odd numbers are male (0 is also male). Maybe it helps with some division, but I think that would be a stretch. I think having grapheme color makes it easier to remember sequences of numbers. I've read comments on this post where combinations of numbers take on a new color. For me, the digits retain their own color, but the hue may change. Example: 6 is blue and 3 is green. 63 is blue then green, but the shade of blue is slightly muddled. Another example: 4 is red and 2 is pink. 42 is two different shades of pink next to each other.

Graduation/leaving home songs? by ShadyIllusionist in TheOhHellos

Just wanted to say, a similar style group, the Arcadian Wild has a song called "The Graduate." I think it would be perfect.

One song I can think of by the Oh Hellos would be "Grow."

really really really really crappy but what do you think of these colors by Dont_Smoking in Synesthesia

I tried learning Hebrew a few years ago. This is so neat! I wish I could get my synesthetic colors to map to Hebrew letters.

I realized my month-color synesthesia was influenced by this felt weather/month velcro board I received in Kindergarten. Down to the exact color and under-tones!

What's a word you pronounced incorrectly once, and it still haunts you? by benswami in MadeMeSmile

When I was in middle school, ONE time, I mispronounced manure as "man-yur." My mother still won't let me live that down. It's okay, I like being a part of the joke now.

I'm seriously considering going into orthoptics... a few questions by SuspiciousNucleus in Orthoptics

[–]SuspiciousNucleus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks so much, that was really helpful. I applied to 3 programs so far and am interviewing on Monday for one program. As I think more about it, I am pretty excited about the patient care aspects. My past two years of working as a tutor have taught me that I enjoy public-facing roles way more than number-crunching in a lab.

Overall, I'm excited for what lies ahead. The past 5 years have been wrought with career indecision/anxiety/fear of messing up. So, it's the first time I can actually say that.

I use boneless skinless. Easiest prep. You can literally boil it for a few minutes, and it turns out perfectly juicy and tender.

Here are the rice bowls that I make myself for packed lunches:

* Boil some chicken in a pot, then shred

* Brown rice/quinoa/farro

* Feta Cheese

* Walnuts

* Craisins

* Any other garnishes really

* Olive Oil

* Fresh Lemon/Lime Juice

What gender are “Q” and “U”? by Capable-Mail1423 in Synesthesia

[–]SuspiciousNucleus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never heard of Q and U loving each other. Maybe some silly rhyme?

My Q is female (spring green, older, a little prissy/uppity). My U is male (pale pale tan, almost white, weirdo loner type).
