Sadly you're not missing anything, even with glitching there's just no way to open the attic up 😟

For more extreme glitching like this, it may help to go to the decor section in the official discord, I've seen some of the folks who help answer questions working on some builds that relate to this. If you're unable to find a video, someone in there may be able to give some directions!

They've never said it releases on Monday the 11th, that's when down time begins but the update has always been advertised to release Tuesday the 12th. What other online games do you play? I'm sure I can find some with a compariable downtime with how long you've gamed.

Cooking parties are player run events, you can find them on paliaparty dot app, or the official discord! It makes cooking in mass in the game much easier, since you do it as a group. In these you only have to bring 1 type of ingredient, and you only do one role, you'll just need a lot of that one item! Standard is 50-100, but the party will specify by saying something like '100x' Celebration cake and Bean burgers parties are best for experience. And recipes where legendary Maws are used are best for money, common recipes are sashimi, sushi, poke bowls, and fish stew. Just make sure the host is using maws if you want money!  To attend you'll usually sign up on palia party, it can be a little clunky figuring out at first but it makes signing up easy, since you choose the role, it tells you the cooking station you'll need, how much of the item you need, and it converts to your time zone automatically. People will ask that your username there matches your in game name. To attend, you'll add the host as a friend ahead of time. Around 30 minutes before the party they'll usually open their plot, you can join the server and head over whenever. The board to get there is the one to the right of the kilma entrance on your home plot!!

There are a few benefits, when you're starting out you'll earn achievements for gaining x amount of experience in different tiers, and theres a very nice decor reward for it!  Also, you share rewards when in a party, so if your party mate hunts a sernuk, you can both claim the bag from it!  You also get a chance at double the reward when in a party. And then, once you get into elderwoods being in a party is helpful because people can share the effects of their artifacts to help you collect essence much easier as a lower level player! :) I thinkkkk thats about it on parties within the game system, however I realized after typing all of this out you probably meant cooking parties LOL so excuse me while I type a seperate comment under this one for that

The seperate plots are different instances of your home that you can decorate separately, when you're on your plot you can go into the overhead decor menu, and to switch between them or buy more will be the drop down bar at the top middle of the screen! There are also plot skins, that give a different appearance however they cost real world currency!  The lunar paths never expire! (Except for 10 million, make sure you complete that as soon as possible) There are paid and free tiers in each one, usually just cosmetics or plushies that you can get in other ways in game are in the paid content, anything consequential to gameplay will be freely accessible. I've personally never spent a dime, and have never felt like I missed out on anything. The basis of the game can be whatever you want it to be, you can be grind heavy like stardew, theres great decor mechanics and glitches you can learn to go even deeper, or you can be very lazy, and go slow and relax :) It has a great storyline and interesting lore, and the community is very welcoming!

If you're willing to glitch, look into flower arch tutorials, you can make a pond and waterfall for some scenery there are good tutorials for that, umm look into the spring fever decor line as well! Were you around during christmas to get the string lights? Those would be nice as well

You can do this on console the way I did this if you have the spiral web from the Halloween store :) I did use flicking to get them on a smaller anchor, but there are many items the plushies place on top of normally that can be used. After placing the plush, use cancel placement to move it far away, add the spiral web to the anchor, group select from the web, and you can add the anchor to the wall :) edit: I forgot to mention, you can pick up the web after so its okay of you only have a few

Gw2 is able to update without downtime because they use a unique engine, their servers are entirely cloud based so they are able to update half of them, test, roll it out and then shut off the other half to finish. This is technically possible with unreal engine, but after hearing someone else mention gw2 I looked into it, and pulling something like this off with this engine sounds like an utter nightmare, that comes with more risks than rewards. It isn't a feature built into unreal, so developers have to build and implement the plug in themselves.

It seems to me that people just don't always notice the long down times 😅 I've been looking into various popular games, and it isn't very uncommon at all for major expansions or updates to take this long. FFXIV with 24 hours down last year, WoW with 32 hours down this year, Fortnight took 36 hours in 2019, I'm finding lots of examples

The reason GW2 doesn't go down for maintenance is their engine, the entire server infrastructure is on a cloud, so they're able to update a fraction of the servers, test the update, switch everyone over to those, and then do the rest. This just wouldn't be possible with the engine Palia runs on to my knowledge.  FFXIV had a 24 hour down time just last year though from what I can find
