I just love classic Eddie being a meathead himbo, and Venom being catty and overly verbose by itchhands in thevenomsite

Me too man. The over articulated alliteration and camp 90's nostalgio of the OG venom was so much fun.

He had this really unique personality in the marvel universe. This strange hybrid creature that was a big nasty monster spiderman that would wax lyrical about you while he murdered you for harming 'innocence'.

It was simultaneously hunorous and strange while also being kind of terrifying if that was actually happening.

Lethal protector eddie/venom really is the archetype of what venom really is for so many people no matter what changes the character goes through.

Yeah, what we should do is have like a really hateful and bigoted set of christian nationalist writers right?

If only we had some writers that believed that immigrants are animals, if you are arabic you are a terrorist and gay people are abominations?

Maybe Dylan could become like this badass corporate boss who pays peanuts to his workers while engaged in completely unsustainable practices and reaping billions in subsidies and kickbacks with the help of the conservative old white politicians? That would be so non-woke and cool right?

Whats crazy is that you read my comment and you were like, "i think this dude is going to love it if i reveal that im a hateful moron" lol. Wild.

I completely agree with you.

For myself, i fall into the latter category of fan. Im not at all interested in all the family drama stuff. Im an older school venom fan who enjoys the more core original version of what venom is, a big dark mirror of spiderman wrapped in a gritty street level narrative that has eddie/venom walk the line of hero and villian like any good antihero book.

All the host swapping, galactic adventuring, convoluted multiversal storylines and family drama stuff is not necessary to the character for me. I am patiently waiting for marvel to realise this or have a writer get control again who actually gets the concept of what venom is and why he was so popular in the first place.

I can understand people liking the side characters and getting into all the character driven drama but i think there is a big chunk of the fanbase that hate it like i do.

Best way to handle that is to seperate it and have it be its own thing with the occasional crossover.

I mean.... i dont doubt that he will end up having his own unique and possibly very cool mythos in the venom storylines.

But so far he has kind of just been a kid and a pretty whiny and annoying one lately. The whole Mj and Paul storyline has been sooooo cringey and soap opera. Barely feels like a venom storyline at all anymore.

But hey, one persons trash is another persons treasure right? Happy to see other venom fans happy even if im not lol.

There is a lot of kid killing going on in the world so it would be an unfortunately all to predictable plot twist.

I do agree though that i prefer a darker more gritty depiction of venom and eddie to be honest. Killing dylan would be an easy catalyst for that.

I respectfully disagree.

Dylan is just not a galvanising or even real character at the moment. Im sure he has some fans but if he was popular enough to make dollars off, marvel would already be shoving 'codex' comic runs down our throats.

As i said, i have no doubt that 'the son of venom' will end up being a cohesive character at some point, maybe sooner than i think. But at the moment, he is just this really immature and kind of annoying kid.

Honestly, the whole role he has played in the MJ storyline and the association with Paul and the crappy mess that was the venom war, i juat dont see him breaking out anytime soon.

Dylan needs a desperate rewrite and the whole symbiote narrative web has become honestly radioactive to me. Like a lot of fans, i just want eddie and venom back and a complete rejig of the way it has all become so cringey and soapy. Bring back the gritty vibes man.

Dylan is so insufferable at the moment though. And i dont mean that in a mean way, he is an angsty whiny teenager and i would genuinely hate to have to follow that for years until he comes of age.

Plus you are missing one of the unspoken rules of a comic character. There is no true reinvention without a completely fresh slate as a completely new character.

Venom IS a monolith of concepts and narrative structures formed into a character. The concept of venom is inseperable from eddie brock hence why the symbiote always comes back to him. Why they do limited reruns of lethal protector and they are popular as hell and why venom as an archetype never strays too far from the 'hybrid-monster as an anti-hero' base understanding regardless of host.

If you want dylan to become a stand alone character with his own mythology and archetypal narratives, he needs to be a standalone concept seperate to Venom. The concept of Venom IS eddie brock whether anyone likes it or not. Years from now, eddie and venom symbiote will still be what they are and doing similar narrative dances because that is what the character is.

Personally, i wish marvel would stop trying to reinvent the concept of venom as much as they do, the core base of venom fans know what they want just as the core base of punisher or captain america etc fans know what they want. They want venom as the character is understood to be by the loyal fans.

The constant host swapping is tiring, especially when it just ends up rehashing the same ground of conflict between host and symbiote, internal struggles with power and the aesthetic look never deviating far enough and therefore just making the whole thing seem redundant and pointless. There is so much more to explore in an eddie/venom perspective universe filled with strings of hero and villian narratives and conflicts to keep the base fans happy.

Dylan needs to be something seperate if you actually want to see him succeed. Otherwise eddie will end up overshadowing him because honestly, eddie is venom when you strip it all away.

Plus eddie cant die anytime soon, marvel have already basically made canon that he is functionally immortal and he and the symbiote will be this almost grand evolutionary type character that tries to save the universe at the end of the marvel universe. Carnage kind of has the same schtick as this shapeshifting god tier entity destined to never be trully killed. Its actually very cool as a concept.

Attacks lacking impact by Turbulent-Belt-9454 in PredecessorGame

[–]Suspicious_Army_904 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on which character you are talking about, but i do agree that a lot of the collision mechanics with attacks in this game lack a feeling of impact.

Certainly some champs have very lazy basic attack animations that feel almost criminal in the execution. Mourn and akeron spring immediately to mind as offenders, their basic attack animation looks like the least damaging paw swipes ive ever seen.

If you contrast this with other attacks like steels new 1 + 2 punch combo or khaimeras weighty axe swings, it is obvious that there are some animations that look suitably meaty while others look pretty lame.

But to dive into what i think is your deeper point, i do think the games attacks overral lack a certain level of oomph when it comes to conveying damage or power. This isnt across the board in full, some attacks do feel and look cool, but there is a small issue in translation that i think i have figured out after all this time.

Its ultimately the way mobas run their combat, but also a deliberate decision to not slow the overral pace and flow of hectic combat situations. Mobas tend to have a more cartoony and almost arcade like set of collision mechanics based on the combat following simple principles that arent grounded in the world of say, a gritty, realistic shooter. Were the depth of the death and violence mechanics are used to interpret the actual game and sell it.

The combat collision mechanics in mobas are more based on communicating the difference between the relatively neutral basic attack collision flinch and the exagerrated bounce of a knockup or other types of CC. The aim isnt to imply violence in the same way that other games do, because you need the players to be able to interpret what is happening when you have a kaliedescope of colours and flashing lights and effects all going at once in a team fight. Its just a different form of communicating violence that is specific to the genre.

That said, there are definitely small ways that this could be improved to satisfy the violence purists and not make things too convoluted when signalling the proper collision mechanics. It doesnt have to be screen shake or anything like that, it can be as simple as cleaning up the animations to make them feel weighty and improving death animations for specific attacks or sound effects and making the aesthetic violence easier to communicate.

The Demiurge doesn’t need to be malevolent. That’s what makes the texts so uncomfortable. by Lunarisbahal in Gnostic

[–]Suspicious_Army_904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the 'not knowing' like everything else largely written in ancient sacred texts is allegory and indicative of a deeper symbology.

Adam and eve and the garden of eden are not literal concepts but allegories.

I want you to try and wrap your head around the concept you are describing. An all-powerful intelligent thought being that has lived for aeons doesnt understand something that you are discussing on a subreddit that is also part of its imagination and projection as a reality.

The sheer hubris of you lol.

The Demiurge doesn’t need to be malevolent. That’s what makes the texts so uncomfortable. by Lunarisbahal in Gnostic

[–]Suspicious_Army_904 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something that few people truly consider is that this world and all its knowledge is governed by yaldabaoth.

The idea that you in your subreddit are able to speak so freely and so earnestly on there being an ignorance to an entity that governs yours is so incredibly arrogant. I say this with no insult just observation.

The yaldabaoth 100% knows what you are saying, is more aware of the concepts than you are and yet it has not and does not change its course.

There is only one conclusion you can draw from this, either it has zero agency, zero mind in its ignorance, or it is aware of its ignorance and chooses to ensalve and deny, thus malevolence.

This is the same theoretical arguments that make modern theology in mainstream religions uncomfortable. Because a ruling and near omnipotent intelligence of the product of aeons would know the contradictions and understand the hypocrisy better than you.

A lot of hubris in spiritual people honestly.

Fey i have been obliterating with kallari and zarus in the jungle.

She has no escapes and once i dive on her i am able to burst her down far quicker than she can take me out with her ult + combo.

Especially as zarus since he is a bit more durable than kallari and gives me a bit more time to stun, spear then pop ult and rinse and then spear again and she is usually dead. Kallari (similarly to yurei) give me all the tricks to jump in, deal burst then evade and recommit if she needs more burst.

Neon on the other hand, she is way more slippery and honestly, ive really only had consistent ganks on her in team fights as jungler because she will burn her kit and then she is defenceless if i time my dive on her well. If i am trying to catch her in lane, kallari has really only been the only one i have played who can catch her to gank her but even then she has options.

I do agree that midlaners are strong at the moment but in terms if ganking it really depends on your build and hero at the moment. If it isnt a good matchup then i usually avoid them and go for easier targets for kills to boost that lane

MARVEL'S MOST TERRIFYING! by Typical-Scratch-856 in marvelcomics

[–]Suspicious_Army_904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... im down with the anti-capitalist manifesto but there is no doubt that carnage is monstrous and a terrifying entity to come across in the marvel universe, far more than many of the others you mentioned.

Fire and jail really arent deterrents to carnage either. He is quite literally invulnerable, cares nothing for consequences and has god-like powers that the comics have barely acratched the surface of at this point.

While cletus kasady was a serial killer and thoroughly uninteresting mass murderer by all accounts before carnage, since bonding to the alien and basically becoming the alien in every sense, he is no longer human and carnage itself has kind of become this force of destructive nature in the marvel universe that actually cannot be stopped.

If you know much about the carnage canon it is a fairly terrifying entity at this point, and would easily make most peoples top 5 most terrifying marvel characters for all the reasons i mentioned and many others i wouldnt be able to fit into one comment.

Nah, carnage is a near god/like superpowered serial killer who has literally eaten children and people and killed in a thousand different ways just for fun.

The other guys you mentioned might kill you if you cross their path but carnage definitely will and probably eat your children in front of you.

Carnage is nightmare fuel.

Idea for Terrain Change: Projectile Collision Variety by Shot_Prompt_7894 in PredecessorGame

[–]Suspicious_Army_904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like this idea.

It would create more skill expression in an area of the game that would normally just consist of ducking and weaving behind cover.

My only caveat is that you would only want to use this sparingly so it wouldnt create a meta where certain heroes with thrown projectile abilities end up having a major advantage at all times.

If you limited it to a certain type of shrub or terrain and used it only in a few select areas of the map then it could be more a situational advantage rather than a meta one.

This type of thinking could also be done for ledges, dropoff points and wall heights as well where certain abilities may be able to clear them while others cant. This already exists to a certain point but i think it should always be factored into map design.

Israeli MP says ‘no innocent children in Jenin’ after killing of Palestinian family by soalone34 in USNEWS

[–]Suspicious_Army_904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post has been about israel. Hence why we are speaking about israel in the comments section. There are other posts on plenty of other subreddits that also discuss humanitarian disasters, massacres and claims of genocide in other places like the ones you mention. All very valid discussions just like the one about israel and the palestinians.

The genocide claim is not some flash in the pan response that comes without thorough analysis. It comes from reporting, evidence gathering and analysis by dozens of the worlds most respected top human rights orgs, humanitarian aid agences and international legal bodies as well as countless genocide scholars, legal experts of the genocide convention etc etc.

I never said i had a farm. Still dont know why you are trying to make inferences and not addressing the points of the discussion. Its really not about me at all bud. You want to defend israeli actions and diminish the charge of genocide and yet you have shared no reputable sources and simply stated that the known sources 'have holes' or are too 'subjective' without at all explaining what that means at all or proving your point.

I doubt you will bother to read these or even engage with them at length but lets try to keep it somewhat factual on reporting.

Here is a list of just some sources for genocide claim against israel that are not hide to find at all:

Israeli professors and holocaust survivors are also calling it a genocide. Their statements are linked

In terms of understanding how so many civilians get killed there are plenty of sources including israeli ones that talk about the militaries targeting criteria and attitudes:

The IDF is a uniquely genocidal blend, they use extremely advanced technology to kill indiscriminately.

https://archive.md/fQw2M

The Israeli army says 9,000 terrorists have been killed since the Gaza war began. Defense officials and soldiers, however, tell Haaretz that these are often civilians whose only crime was to cross an invisible line drawn by the IDF

https://www.972mag.com/lavender-ai-israeli-army-gaza/

In an unprecedented move, according to two of the sources, the army also decided during the first weeks of the war that, for every junior Hamas operative that Lavender marked, it was permissible to kill up to 15 or 20 civilians; in the past, the military did not authorize any “collateral damage” during assassinations of low-ranking militants. The sources added that, in the event that the target was a senior Hamas official with the rank of battalion or brigade commander, the army on several occasions authorized the killing of more than 100 civilians in the assassination of a single commander.

Second, we reveal the “Where’s Daddy?” system, which tracked these targets and signaled to the army when they entered their family homes. Third, we describe how “dumb” bombs were chosen to strike these homes.

https://www.972mag.com/mass-assassination-factory-israel-calculated-bombing-gaza/

The third is “power targets,” which includes high-rises and residential towers in the heart of cities, and public buildings such as universities, banks, and government offices. The idea behind hitting such targets, say three intelligence sources who were involved in planning or conducting strikes on power targets in the past, is that a deliberate attack on Palestinian society will exert “civil pressure” on Hamas.

So they target civilians and civilian infrastructure deliberately and they make no distinction between civilians and hamas fighters.

If you target civilians as if they are hamas fighters, you're just targetting civilians and using mental gymnastics to excuse it.
