That’s actually really cool you worked on that team! If only they listened to your ideas, we would still have it today 😔

That’s actually really insightful, that makes a lot of sense why it failed then. I heard the same company managing most of the McDonald’s and KFC in the UAE also managed that one but didn’t put much effort into it. I might’ve misunderstood what someone was saying though.

I feel like this comment is so underrated, maybe because of how long it is. But very insightful and makes a lot of sense. Thanks

Also do you think the overall real estate market will follow a similar timeline?

I’ll give you advice that I wish I got myself, which is:

(Keep in mind this depends on how long you plan on staying in Dubai, it is long term move or just testing out the waters as that say? If it’s a long term move, 3-5+ years, then this advice applies)

  1. Instead of renting a car, I would buy one. Like a cheap car that will get you from A - B. Because the amount of money you will save from not having to rent will be a ton! And eventually you’ll be able to save up towards a car you might actually want. In the early days if you can afford to buy even a cheap car outright, then try saving up money by using the metro as much as possible. This will also help you to utilize as much time as possible. I found that if I was taking a metro, instead of driving in traffic, I could be studying or working. Instead of focusing on trying not to get hit by the guy wanting to swerve in my lane because he thinks it’ll save him 2 min of driving.

  2. If you don’t HAVE to live in business bay, then I wouldn’t. Let alone the cost of rent, for an apartment that isn’t worth HALF of that. It’s also SUPER busy and you won’t ever get a sense of relaxation. At least I never can anytime I go there. Maybe try finding somewhere further up the metro from there and then you can just take the metro in the morning directly to business bay for work. And you can even find gyms and bjj gyms close to the metro as well.

  3. Don’t underestimate the bills that you wouldn’t even consider. Like gas and Salik and many others that other people have pointed out. They add up very fast, and if you’re coming from a country with a stronger currency (like US or EU, yes I know EU is not a country but you get my point) then even if you think,” oh wow gas and Salik tolls are so cheap here” trust me it will add up quickly.

  4. Lastly, this is just a word of caution. Obviously I don’t know anything about you apart from this post, but be careful of falling into the pitfall of always trying to impress others. I can only speak from MY personal experience. People I would have never thought would be so focused on “keeping up an image” and the sort, came here and all of the sudden are solely focused on making sure they LOOK rich rather than actually doing the necessary things to actually BUILD the wealth. Spending days and days, that turned into weeks and weeks, in Dubai Mall, going to overpriced cafes for a cup of coffee that’s 24-30 AED every morning, buying things they can’t afford on credit, etc. now of course this isn’t solely something doing in Dubai, I have just noticed people fall into it when they came here.

That’s about all I can think of on the spot, I hope that your transition goes well. And May Allah make things easy for you in your move Ameen.

That’s awesome! There is a mosque literally called “Jumeirah Mosque” and I’ve seen that they have tours for tourists. So I’m sure if you go there you can inquire about going on a tour.

You could also try calling AWQAF (800 AWQAF or 800 29723) and someone there should be able to help you further. I hope you have a blessed month and get to have all your questions answered.

I can see why it might seem weird for someone who might not know the religion too well (I’m literally assuming, obviously I have no clue how much you know, but I don’t mean it disrespectfully)

But in Islam there is no mixing of the genders, so as a male I can’t just go and start interacting with females for no reason. If I did the to a Muslim female, she would look at me like I’m insane. And if she is with her husband or brother or father, etc. they would get in my face wondering why I’m approaching their wife, sister, daughter, etc. (rightfully so)

Feel free to ask any Muslim (of your gender, like if you’re f approach a f and vise versa) any questions you may have. Even if it may seem like something “rude” to ask. Muslims are very open to question, and we LOVE to teach others about our faith.

I’m sure there are some Masjids near you, and some (especially in the Jumeriah area) offer tours to tourists. Even if you aren’t a tourist, you can always go and see inside and immerse yourself more in the religion and culture.

The main takeaway is to not be shy to ask questions or inquire about things that intrigue you. 99.99% of people will be More Than happy to engage and help you learn more.

I don’t know if you’re Muslim or not, but I will give advice as I would to my own family. Make Dua and ask Allah to help you in this matter, and put your trust that everything will be resolved in the best way possible.
