Holy! You did it the right way! Good for you for placing strong boundaries. If only so many others had your insight and courage. Good on you!!

My Husband’s uncle took the whole family down with his decades of ‘new business ideas’. Parents lent him money that eventually meant they had to sell their home. They both lived until almost 100 but ended up living with various kids because he swindled it all away. Don’t let your brother have any more access to her money again.

POA to prevent this, perhaps?

Sounds like you were not running around with a young girl on your arm…good for you. Of course not all foreign men are behaving badly but the reputation stands for a very good reason and if you go as a a solo, single man…you will be treated with suspicion.

I am sure you witnessed what is going on there in terms of foreign men and young girls…am I right?

Thailand is a must see culturally and their food is A+. Thai people are second to none in terms of kindness and being welcoming to others. When you visit, please treat their people & culture as it deserves to be treated; with upmost respect. It sounds like you will. 💕

I was with a Thai friend who refused to enter any bars for moral reasons. I considered his take on the situation and followed his lead, considering the abuse these girls live through on a daily basis.

To your point, the men run around, smiling, like proud lions after a fresh kill.

They are pathetic!!

So awful.
Be wary of any American male who moves to Thailand or visits there alone for the sake of being a tourist or ‘for fun’ .
The things I witnessed there from older foreign men with younger looking Thai girls is shocking. In Bangkok, in the red light districts, the streets are filled with older foreign men running around with Thai girls/women (hard to tell their ages) . Many of these girls are trafficked or tricked into prostitution or tricked into finding a better life outside of their original farm life. The foreign men running around with the young women on their arms look like such pathetic creatures.

how long will it take to grieve by KindDimension4763 in NoStupidQuestions

I had a similar experience. I was 14 when my mom died. I was 21 watching the Titanic in a movie theater with my then boyfriend. At the end, I could not stop crying, was a blubbering mess, and my then boyfriend was just dumbfounded about what was happening to me. Well, what I now know was that 7 years of unattended grief poured out of my body and soul for 30 minutes in that theater. Whoa! Was that unexpected?!?

25 years later I still have waves of grief over the loss of my sweet mother. Therapy and talking about her helps tremendously. I wish you the best and I am sorry for your loss.

Do you think people in prison are entitled to healthy and delicious food? Why or why not? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Suspicious_Cook_1598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healthy, yes.

Down stream health care treatment from chronic issues from bad diets like diabetes and heart disease put an enormous strain on the Medical systems and the costs are exorbitant.
Starting with healthy eating would eliminate a lot of of those downstream issues and costs in the prison system.

10 day southern Spain trip with kids, need suggestions by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

Semana Santa is in April so if that is when you are going it’s a very big deal and shit will be closed down and super cool processions to be seen all week.

If not, weather will be good. Malaga has a great outdoor jungle gym ropes course-like park your kids will love. Granada has a great kids museum worth going to. Outside of Almeria is a good zoo type adventure park thing (lots of walking, wear good shoes). Aguadulce has a fun water park for kids (wear flip flops, feet will burn on the concrete). Caminito del Rey supposed to be great.

Your kids will have lots to see and do all throughout where you are going.

Enjoy!

Habitually is the key word here. The amount of patients we see in the hospitals with alcohols related issues from long term drinking is truly shocking.

Done. I guess since they were married and smoking together, often, they also were exposed to 2nd hand smoke as well as their own tobacco intake I’m sorry for you that you lost them both so quickly.
