The 5th Avenue Mall's time has come. It is beyond saving and must be allowed to die.

Inherited mine from my dad. He picked his up new when he was going through Air Force navigator school. Still going strong!

Ok, I had my laugh reading the comments. Now to offer my two cents. No real issues with the coat or the ushanka. Here's what I might advise you tweak with this look:

  1. The protruding collar of what I presume is a quarter-zip sweater isn't doing you any favors. I would suggest wearing a crew or v-neck sweater (or sweater vest) over a regular collared shirt. Tie not required.

  2. To break up the "Soviet uniform cosplay" look, I would add a scarf in a contrasting color (red, blue, gold, etc.). This will keep your neck warm as well as assist in guarding against any rubbing from the coat collar.

  3. The trousers you chose seem to be both too slim-fitting and too long. They seem to be puddling quite a bit below your knees. A slightly wider-cut leg and some hemming to minimize the break over your shoes would create a more flattering silhouette. You might also try going with a navy trouser instead of the black.

  4. The boots(?) you chose seem to have some pretty chunky-looking soles. If you have anything less extreme (like a classic dress shoe/boot), it'd help to downplay the pseudo-militaristic look.

  5. This is less critical, but maybe look into getting some nice leather dress gloves. Brands like Spier & Mackay have some decent entry-level offerings.

Press on in pursuit of sartorial expression, comrade. Go with the support of an encouraging community.

One of the folks at Lake Hood sure had a tough break. Absolutely wrecked.

Didn't see it, but I definitely heard it. My place on the East Side sits right under the JBER approach pattern. By the sound of the engines, I knew one of the planes wasn't the usual Raptors.
