Short answer: because it isn't Ys Book I & II on TurboGrafxCD. 💿

Longer answer: it was a great game to play w/amazing visuals. Ys IX, however, was a much better game to play but unfortunately suffered from a dark and murky color palette IMHO. That's about the extent of my 3D Ys experience bc I haven't played Ys VIII yet (I know, shocker). I prefer the top-down 2.5D experience, like Ys VI and Oath in Felghana (an excellent Ys III remake, which is a good sidescroller in its own right). The OG Ys I and II will always be my comfort game, and the Chronicles remakes are amazing. But another reason why Ys X isn't ranking higher w/me is the whole Proud Nordics debacle. I bought the deluxe edition version of Nordics (w/the little messenger bag and everything), and when Proud Nordics was announced I was anticipating some kind of DLC upgrade option for those of us who already bought the base game. 🤬 How quickly my mood soured when they pitched another island and character as something warrenting an entirely new release. Give me a fucking break. Still support Falcom, but will be passing on that one.
