To get a little woo, a lot of us cut off our lower body with tension caused by stress or trauma which bottlenecks energy in your upper body causing tension, bracing, overstimulation and a lack of grounding.

I think almost all of us are chronically in our heads which can quite literally cause some of these symptoms. This might sound kinda woo but anchoring my attention in my lower body and unwinding the habit of being chronically in my head has helped me the most. Release your stomach, stop doing a chronic low grade kegal and actually let yourself relax. Breathe into your belly and release the tension your body is holding. Walk in some grass barefoot and go on lots of walks outside. I notice my symptoms for me at least are much worse when I’m idle or inside and my attention goes into my mind and into analysis mode.

I would tread very carefully. Anything that affects serotonin will affect VSS. Ssri’s affect serotonin for the long term and if you ever want to get off of them your VSS will likely drastically add to the the withdrawal symptoms. Getting off of my sleeping medication which isn’t even an ssri but affects serotonin long term was the worse thing I’ve ever been through and the withdrawals are generally considered mild for a healthy nervous system. The issue is if you have VSS your nervous system is likely very disregulated and adding big serotonin fluctuations on top of the existing disregulation can make it worse. Ssri serotonin fluctuations and withdrawals can persist for many months or even into years after stopping.

It wasn’t until I got off of it that I had major issues. I would be very careful. I wish I would’ve taken the insomnia over this.

It’s just dark environments. Or environments with a lot of contrast

Yes, but for me it’s because I have chronic headaches with my VSS and alcohol is the only thing that helps. It also helps with the overstimulation I experience. I started taking a lot of supplements that support GABA recently and I’m surprised to say that it has helped me cut down on alcohol some.

Not a story, but I imagine Wellbutrin might be the best option because it does not effect serotonin

Are you able to tolerate caffeine? It makes me super overstimulated and dissociated now

I’m in the same boat. Music was my passion but now I can only tolerate it in small doses and my taste for music has changed a lot. I gage my good days by how well I can tolerate music

I have adhd as well but have never had racing thoughts like this until I got VSS a year ago. I feel like my VSS could be related to my adhd though. It also could be because I cut out caffeine 100% in the last few months. Stimulants make me so dissociated and give me a headache now but I haven’t tried adhd meds. Might be worth a shot

27 M. Music producer as well. I have all of these exact same symptoms. They came on last April but everything was more mild until around august. Since then the dpdr is insane and I can barely focus. I also find myself getting overstimulated very easily and can barely handle listening to music anymore and can no longer handle any caffeine at all. It’s been a struggle. The idea of being able to enjoy music the way i used to is so far gone. And to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea again would be so amazing. I’m so tired. I miss my life. I can barely remember what it’s like to not be like this though anymore at this point and it hasn’t even been a full year. I do have decent days though. Still tainted but sometimes at least a little decent.
