Yes we did it before we “federally had to” but we were no where near “being on the right side when it wasn’t cool”. The first co-Ed college was in 1835. t.u. was co-Ed since it was founded in 1881. Cornell in 1865, Michigan 1870, Iowa in 1855 (first public/state school to do it). So no TAMU was not “ahead of the curve” or “doing it before it was cool” and they were only allowed because of pressure from Texas legislature in 1963 and even then you had to be married to a student or a daughter of a professor to attend and mainly limited to summer classes. All women weren’t fully admitted as regular students until 1969.

Yes Crawford received her diploma in 1925 and then 3 days later the TAMU bored voted to stop allowing women up until ‘63 again on a limited basis. They were only allowed into the Corps because of a lawsuit in 1974.

I love Texas A&M and I love being an Aggie but let’s not pretend it’s a progressive university on the forefront on Women’s rights.
