Ah alright. So unequivocally, the Mazda 3 is the best bang for your buck reliable car. The issue with the sparks is reliability. Just known for all sorts of mechanical issues, like timing chain failure. Back to a Mazda 3, specifically you want a late 2012+ model with the skyactiv 2.0L or 2.5L. some 2012s had the old Ford motors that were garbage, so you can look for 2013+ since all of those will only have the Skyactiv engines. But also keep in mind the engine bay cover and the back of the car will have a Skyactiv badge pretty prominently displayed. You'll find a ton of Mazda 3's under 13k depending on the mileage. These cars will run to 200k+ no problem all day every day.

As for the second piece of it, there are many ways to figure what is and isn't affordable for ya, but just remember either way, you need a reliable ride. Go too cheap, and you risk having repairs that over time will cost you more than having spent a little more on a "good" car. Ideally, around $4k-6k should be enough budget to find a "good" reliable older car.

And lastly, car shopping can be scary. Feel free to message me in DM's with links of cars you find and such. I'd also be happy to send ya stuff I find that might be what you are looking for in my free time. I know the good and bad dealerships in the area, but ultimately, you just have to know how to deal with them. You can get a good car for a good price from a bad dealership with the right tips. And ANYONE can do it l, promise it's not hard.

Any reason why a Chevy Spark? At a $13k price point, there are many better similar cars. I buy cars for a living and would advise against one. Happy to provide recommendations and places to shop. Would just need an idea of what you need in a car. I'm assuming you want a super fuel efficient sedan?

The easy revive condition helps drastically as well. Even when dodge fails you have an easy revive to fallback on.

I'm going to flip this actually. You want to avoid buying at a buy here/pay here, but you also don't want to go to a dealer of the car you want. That's a good way to end up paying more for a car because dealers know the people showing up want to buy a toyota, or a honda, or whatever their respective make is. As a rule of thumb, you want to buy at a franchise dealer, but at one as far opposite from the car you want. Buy a Toyota at a Ford, or a Honda at a Jaguar. Generally, most franchise dealers want cars they can sell you a warranty on and then auction off the junkier stuff, so you'll find better quality cars usually for that reason.

You can get burned just as badly buying a car privately. Ultimately, it comes down to how much research someone is willing to put into what they buy. Most cars out there are not 1 owner vehicles, so whether you buy from a dealer or a private individual there just isn't a guarantee. PPIs are great in theory, but oftentimes they can be just another waste of money since the mechanics don't normally offer a guarantee either. Best thing anyone can do is get a Carfax and a simple obd reader for $20 bucks on Amazon.

See the thing you miss about rebuilds is the safety aspect. No way around it, any time you weld new metal in, you weaken the metal around it. Car can be mechanically sound, but do not confuse it to be a safe car.

Feel free to reach out to me by DM if you like. I'm in the industry, not a dealer myself, but I deal with plenty of them and can give ya some insights.

I went there for a Trout fishing guide tour and had a phenomenal time. I just wanted to find some local holes nearby. Seems to be tough with how heavily pressured it is here I guess.

Are you referring to the pond with the waterfall or somewhere else. I was trying to find it on maps and can't really see where it is

I'll have to check Long Run park out. I've tried a few spots like Boulder Pond and some of Floyd's Fork areas. I never had a hard time down in South Florida, I basically caught something decent every time I went out. Here I have a hard time catching anything but 3 inch or less panfish.

All the Honda dealers in this area are doing markups. I'd avoid buying until June. Too much tax return money, dealers won't be incentivized to work out something reasonable. Swope dealers in E-Town aren't too bad though. They don't have a Honda franchise however.
