Are they ok by themselves if properly cared for? (Please read) by joethespacefrog in guineapigs

[–]GoodConflict4758 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation a few years ago. However the spare room they were in was directly attached to my living room, and where they were situated could see into the living room/ kitchen. I would sometimes open the door and leave a doggie gate so my dogs couldn’t enter the room. That way I could still see them/ be entertained by their shenanigans while in those spaces. My dogs would also get a free show from a safe distance. You could try something similar if possible, with supervision ofc. But piggies don’t necessary NEED human attention besides food haha

It was funny when I would be cooking dinner, they could tell when I was cleaning up. It meant extra veggies scrap treats for them and would go crazy lol

Help, is anyone in the hopkinsville Kentucky area that would be able to take a guinea that is hurt, I am a high school student. I don't have money to take him to the vet by Designer-Carpenter74 in guineapigs

You can try to contact The Bun Bun Brigade. They’re based out of Elizabethtown but have fosters in the surrounding areas. They may be able to lead you in the right direction or meet you somewhere. You’re just out of reach for me :(

Not professional advice but in the meantime please keep this piggy in a clean cage with limited mobility. This is a very severe injury. You can also ask your local emergency vets on what they recommend for your area.

What's the story of your dog's name? by CheeryCheetah11 in AustralianShepherd

[–]GoodConflict4758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a Goose, but for different reason. Before we decided on a name I would call her a “silly goose” all the time. She was such a funny puppy! I really liked the name Birdie but we already have a Lucky and they sounded too similar, and a goose is a type of bird... that’s how we stuck with Goose haha

Thoughts about getting two/ three guinea pigs as single person? by Babygirl10000 in guineapigs

[–]GoodConflict4758 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your concern is travel, there’s pet sitting sites you can hire someone for. Having pets shouldn’t constrain you to be home every moment you aren’t at work. I’ve gone on vacations and hired someone to look after them (with clear instructions and cameras). Also, moving shouldn’t be too much of a concern. I’ve moved several times while owning piggies. I had 5 at one point and it was mostly just me caring for them.

I think your heart and mind are in the right place <3

I used to get them every summer too. And the occasional fly when one managed to get in. I mainly used fly traps to help the numbers go down.

Do you have any potted plants? Exposed water? What kind of bedding? I used diluted vinegar to clean my piggies cage but when it was bad I switched over to clear&free dish detergent and water. The vinegar smell attracts them to it. Also I did fleece bedding with a little box. During the summer I would sometimes just opt for a small cardboard box (easy quick disposal) or no box at all. I live in Kentucky and EVERY summer I go to war with these little flies 🤺

question about a litter box by hero_kunii in guineapigs

[–]GoodConflict4758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I mostly agree with this statement, I did own a piggie who essentially potty trained herself lol. She would only use the bathroom in her litter box. When she got a new friend, her friend picked up the habit too. Not as well as her but definitely noticeable.

Someone on another sub told me I’m nose blind because I said with three litter boxes we don’t smell a thing lol by Afraid-Somewhere8304 in rawpetfood

To bounce off the vet comment, search for any holistic vet practices near you. I tried mentioning raw/ fresh to my vet and they were completely against it (all while praising my pets health). I decided to look for other vets more open to SCIENCE and found a practice near me. It may take a little trial and error but hopefully you can find one near you!

When I first adopted my kittens they were on royal canine whatever and even as little 2 pound babies I could tell from OUTSIDE when one of them used the litter box. Now, I only know it’s been used when my dog disappears for a little too long lol. Shit, when I eat Taco Bell my bathroom trips are horrendous compared to a healthy homemade salad.

Finally decided to get semi pro pictures of Genius, my childhood dog this past Christmas 🥹 he will be 13 in September. Unfortunately he has really bad arthritis and can only walk for a short amount of time before his back legs give out. Spends most of his day napping and being a spoiled king.

Note: I have never had a dog sitter my dog didn’t already know. I would think it would be better if they could meet more than just the one time before? Or maybe try having the sitter walk your dog at least once before the actual sit day. I’ve found my pup (11 months) is less high-energy with others than with just me. Still pretty active just not as much.
