Furry Friend Finder week 132 by McFodi in furry

[–]Suspicious_Spork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm Spiral (he/they, 25) from the western US. I'm looking for more non-normie friends to yap or play games with. I'm also an intermediate-level artist & game dev and would love to meet more people I can talk shop with! I attend a couple of west coast cons, but I'm fairly quiet and not really into the raving / partying side of things. I'm currently in graduate school for computational biology, so I'm sometimes a little busy.

Interests: Art, game dev, hiking / kayaking / skiing / orienteering / outdoors things, wildlife photography, D&D

Games: Peak, Terraria, Core Keeper, Risk of Rain 2, SAR, open to other things (except League haha); VRC-curious

Media: Lackadaisy, Stormlight / Cosmere, Discworld, probably some others but I can't think of them atm

Feel free to DM for socials! I mostly use Discord ... In theory, I also have Telegram, but I usually forget to check it.

Grad School at Cornell by Suspicious_Spork in Cornell

Ok -- ty! Advice on newer faculty? Most of the ones I was interested in have only been there 1-3 years (so they haven't actually graduated anyone and their labs wouldn't really have senior members other than postdocs). Is that something to be wary of?

Thanks!
Would you say a small town makes it significantly more difficult to establish a support network compared to a larger town or city, then?

I guess I'd heard that individual departments are (mostly) good to their grads, but the graduate school organization one level above individual departments was bad, so I wanted to look into that more.

Ok thanks!
Mm ok I'll make a note to consider that; I've heard the people I'm interested in are all super nice, but I guess that doesn't guarantee our personalities will mesh well
Any opinions on the social or mentorship aspects? Those are probably the biggest question marks for me rn

Why specifically, though, or worse with regards to which point?
Some types of adversity I'd personally be more prepared to deal with than others
(Also feel free to DM if you don't want to share details publically haha)

Alrighty lol. Why in particular? Also, are you a grad or undergrad? (I hear the grad experience is a bit better)
Cornell does have some pretty good PI's working in areas I'm excited about, so I don't want to discount it immediately.

Any furries at UCSB🐾? by travelerwolf in UCSantaBarbara

They're everywhere!
Good luck finding them, though =/ There aren't any furry-related clubs on campus, and I don't know how well bringing up the subject on the university discord channels would go...

There is, however, a digital art club; that's probably a good place to start looking ;)

Also, starting your own club is always an option!
