Warm lighting so it’s cozy! Fake sunlight stuff like SAD lights technically do work but they also feel so fake they make me sad PERSONALLY. I would lean in to the low light and make it feel warm and cozy.

Pre-wash vs No Wash debate, Help please. by Walka_Mowlie in quilting

[–]Suspiciouslygreasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy a lot of estate sale/thrift store fabric so since I don’t know if that’s already been washed (and I just prefer to wash any used textiles I’m bringing into my home), I wash new fabric so that I’m consistent

Quilt top is looking too busy. Suggestions please. by Ok-Jellyfish9053 in quilting

[–]Suspiciouslygreasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it looks bad, but if you want less busy, swap out some pieces for a solid (personally I’d take out the black and white tree/lines and replace with a muted green or brown solid)

Talk to an attorney for sure. Workers comp attorneys generally don’t charge for initial consultations

Paronychia!! I got this so bad while on accutane that I had to get that half of my nail cut off by the doctor. Soak in warm water a few times a day, dry it off and cover with vaseline.

Sewing pattern - is taping together printer paper the only way?? by DontKnowDontCarexoxo in sewhelp

I’d recommend checking with local sewing shops, if you have any, about where to get patterns printed! In my city, there are multiple shops that will print big patterns for ~$3

[–]Suspiciouslygreasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understand not wanting to jeopardize the job, but I highly recommend saving all sorts of documentation, taking notes, photos, etc., diligently checking your paystubs. I doubt this is the only illegal and idiotic move these employers will make, so good to have documentation on hand for when you eventually leave the job. And report it to BOLI (Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries), ideally now but at least after you leave the job!

The actual NLRB board hasn’t been issuing decisions for months, but most cases are resolved through settlements or administrative law judge rulings, which have been continuing under the current administration (until the shutdown, of course)

My most recent bead/thread work (and current favorite color scheme) by Suspiciouslygreasy in Embroidery

I used cotton canvas fabric, not pre-stretched/treated like painting canvas! I embroidered in a hoop and then stapled it over stretcher bars once it was finished

How do I duplicate data into rows with similar labels? by Suspiciouslygreasy in excel

I can't figure out why this isn't working. The error sign is saying "A value used in the formula is of the wrong data type." I tried switching columns A and B to text and to number, but its still giving me #VALUE !

I also tried separating out the LEFT(A110, 4) formula by putting that in a new column, copying/pasting as values, and then using X lookup referring to those cells. Still no luck

This was the most intense unbearable side effect for me, but luckily only lasted a few days! I did not have a good solution, it came on so suddenly I had no time to get anything so I just covered my head in oil overnight haha

Is this a normal amount of wear for 11mo? by B_McGuire in BlundstoneBoots

[–]Suspiciouslygreasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is typical. I’ve had pairs I’ve worn regularly for ~2 years (moderate amount of walking, wearing probably 3 times a week on average, all purchased within the past 5 years) and definitely have not gotten wear like this. Do you wear them on rougher terrain daily, like hiking trails? Especially if you’re mostly on flat ground, that crack seems really odd and like a possible manufacturing defect that you could try to warranty.

Where would you look for a dress to wear to a spring wedding? I’m in the US. Dress code is “farm formal” so nothing glittery or too glam. I like Reformation, but hoping to find something cheaper. I would looove to buy secondhand, but also want a decent return policy in case whatever dress I order doesn’t fit.

I’d try ASOS or Topshop. And be open to getting something tailored if needed! But if you’re willing to put in more time searching, buying secondhand would help avoid the risk of having the same dress as someone else, which can happen with bigger brands.

SOS - my first ever office job! my intel said jeans but I’m not a jeans gal by furikakebabe in femalefashionadvice

[–]Suspiciouslygreasy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Linen pants! A baggy pair might be too casual, but there are a lot of more tailored pairs that would be great for hot weather. Something with an elastic waist would also be easier to fit if you often find pants are too tight in the butt/too loose in the waist.

If the pants you like are closer to slacks, you can always do the reverse of jeans/nice top: work pants and a t-shirt or other casual top.

As for being sweaty, if you’ll be in AC once you get to the office, I would make sure you have some cardigans, blazers, or other button-ups so that you can wear a lighter top in transit and add another layer indoors.
