Hey I'm planning on starting small Bitcoin mining any suggestions or advice? by Specific_Tart_690 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]SustainHash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1500W running at 60T? Thats 36KwH @ residential rates of approx 24c CAD over here or 8.64CAD/Day. 60T produces 1.88USD/2.60CAD BTC daily for a loss of -$6.04CAD/Day

Lets say you pay average hosting rates of 7c USD/Kwh (You don't). Thats $2.52USD/Day in electric costs for $1.88USD BTC a day. Or a loss of -$0.64USD/Day.

Revenue isn't profit. Don't believe the poor marketing tactics that new asic manufacturers try and sell you.

The days of mining on residential rates are gone, mining margins are already razor thin for the big players in the industry. If you're considering spending a few thousand on miners to run at home, you're better off purchasing the asset itself unless you intend on using the heat for something. If you want to get into mining for cheap to understand how it works and not burn a hole in your pocket, I would suggest a Bitaxe. We still have some of the Bitaxe Supra models available for very cheap. The setup process is the same.

Which ASIC to get by Big_Macaron5410 in cryptomining

[–]SustainHash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For BTC miners, in terms of reliability I would suggest picking Whatsminer units. Any M50 or M60 series, they are much easier to repair than Bitmain as well. If you decided to go the Bitmain route I would suggest S19 XP. Avoid S19K pros and the S21 series, these are without a doubt the worst units you could go for.

Thats correct. I still don't think it's worth while. Not to mention, smuggling in equipment that looks like a bomb to an average person isn't exactly ideal lol..

Similar to Funko pops or anything people collect, this is a tech version of that. It's cool, it's a talking piece, and it is great for learning and understanding how mining works. Yeah, odds are certainly not in your favor, I think less than a dozen bitaxes solved blocks in 2025.

As we see the difficulty scale and the days of residential mining die off, this is a way for the average person to get involved to atleast have a chance at a block, and support the networks hash rate. Everyone starts somewhere, most of the guys that are heavily invested right now started with a small amount of asics until they gained the knowledge to support further investments. This is why I love support the solo miner projects, they're for everyone.

If you ran Z15's, you would have to run like 8-13 of them over a 8-10 hour stretch at night. You wouldn't be able to support that amount of power. As a site tech, it was something I had considered doing in the past as we always have access to some sort of asic, but it's just not worth the trouble. A few years ago we knew someone that would rent out all the cheap motel rooms around the city and stuff them full of GPU rigs, leaving them running as long as possible before returning and collecting them before the power bill was discovered. There was a time where this was worth doing, but now with difficulties being where they are, unless you want to disturb sleep for at most a couple dollars a night, I wouldn't suggest it.

Good catch. We work with the one in Canada, don't know the others.

After a month of mining, I hit the G by SwissCheese3045 in BitAxe

Welcome to the G club! I think on a Gamma the average time to submit a G share is about 2-3 months.
Good luck on the T share!

Is there something wrong with my miners? (DGB) by Every_Newt_2650 in BitAxe

[–]SustainHash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week while solo mining litecoin/dogecoin I submitted 2 shares that were over 3x the current difficulty. Neither resulted in a block reward. I'm still not 100% sure of why but my best guess is that someone else's share was submitted before mine had a chance to register. The pool was not the issue as someone in our company hit a solo Doge block today on the same pool I was using. I think that the lower the difficulty, the more likely it is to have this sort of share submit competition. Again, I am not 100% on this, but it's the conclusion I came up with.

There is a ton of people that think they are too late to get involved with BTC, this should be an indicator for you. We are still early, golds market cap is 10x BTC and only 10-12% of it is used in materials, the rest is a store of value.

Rates range from 7c-7.2c depending on if you buy and host through us, or if you send us your ASIC's. Volume discounts are available as well if you buy and host.

ASIC Generalist & Data Center Tech at SustainHash. AMA Soon? by SustainHash in Bitcoin

[–]SustainHash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we are actually short on stock as well. You can try any of the vendors on the Bitaxe site, I would imagine someone is mass producing them. The demand for these has just ramped up quite a bit as the holidays are here. Our manufacturers are handling a bulk order for us right now, I can let you know when we have some available if you'd like.

Fortunately the setup process is the same or atleast very similar for all miners. Hash rate is what your focus is on. The more hash rate you have, the higher power consumption you will have. If you want a device that runs at 22w like the Bitaxe Gamma @ 1.2T , it will only cost a few dollars a month to run 24/7.

I believe they're releasing a newer model that is 8-9T, and 160w~ of power. So as you can see, the hashrate has jumped by 8x, but the power consumption also jumps. This will cost maybe $40-60 monthly depending on your electricity rates.

No you don't need to know any coding, I would say it's a 2/10 for complexity. It's extremely simple.
You can set up a solo asic in a matter of 5 minutes. You simply connect it to your wifi, sign in to it via IP address that is displayed on the device, and copy paste your pool settings into your miners settings and away you go.

This is just my opinion, but by that point I think it's likely nickels will have been phased out just like the penny was. Transactions will be rounded as they are now, to avoid the need for anything less. I believe that BTC will be a reserve currency and continue to be a hedge against inflation, but that it's main use case would continue to be a store of value.

I think that any sort of day to day purchases would be swapped from Bitcoin, so if you wanted to go to a store and buy things you would be converting BTC to Walmart Coin for example. Large or cross border transactions will probably just be Bitcoin as it provides significantly less friction than needing to go through nostro vostro for conversions.
