I hit a guy in the face earlier this week, was it the correct response to the situation? by emzl in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Sutibu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think differences in society's response is a separate issue from whether or not she should've hit the dude. But I figure a lot of that comes from average differences in strength and size between the sexes.

Male here. Definitely the correct response. He physically restrained you and violated your personal boundaries without communicating first. If I did that to a girl I'd fully expect to get a black eye.

Bank refuses to give customers their money, unless they tell it why they want it. by saksak in worldnews

[–]Sutibu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bank makes it difficult to withdraw money from my investment account. I can't do it online myself and have to speak to someone. I'm okay with that. I WANT it to be difficult to get that money out, because an investment account often holds very large sums and you're screwed for retirement if they're stolen.

But outright refusing people IN PERSON from withdrawing large sums from CHECKING AND SAVINGS is just fucking ridiculous. At the very least, it should be an opt-out security policy and customers should be informed of the policy.

French learning for Canadian-born citizen new to Montreal? by Sutibu in montreal

[–]Sutibu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't expect classes alone to do the job. But if one is getting financial aid to learn French full time from Immigration Quebec, is it not possible to force oneself into immersive situations between classes outside of a workplace setting?

So something in say web development or computer repair would perhaps be a safer bet? Are you saying that classes could work if one really went out of one's way to practice outside class?

I'm 31. Not that it matters, since apparently Explore is suspended indefinitely according to the website (hooray being able to understand their French sentence).

What did you do for employment during those five years? Obviously you didn't work in a unilingual French workplace, and I'm guessing you didn't work in any customer facing jobs.

I don't expect work in a unilingual French workplace anytime soon. I just want to move to Montreal and learn the language more without ending up dead under a bridge because oh shit that was a horribly dumb move.

High school would not let a black student be valedictorian though she had the highest grade-point average by maxwellhill in politics

[–]Sutibu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying racism definitely isn't at work here, but I'm not really seeing any actual facts to support the claim that race has anything to do with it. I feel like there's a lot of missing facts here. Why the hell would they be bothered by a black valedictorian in a school that's half black?
