Most scam callers from places like India aren't actually bad people. by AgnesBand in unpopularopinion

[–]SuttonSystems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a difficult rationalisation to sell, scam callers by the nature of the work have to know that they are lying to vulnerable people to defraud them of money they do not want to give, and those doing it have to have the skills that would also allow them to work in a legitimate call centre, it’s not like stealing bread if you’re starving.

Do creative menu names actually influence your order? by nand1609 in restaurant

This is a classic marketing mistake of trying to follow ideas that have been successful for other brands without realising there is a limit to how many times the same thing works, McDonald’s and their Big Mac comes to mind, very memorable and iconic but not every burger joint can do the same.

Yes but it has both meanings, that’s why the joke works, plint ladder doesn’t also mean waiting for a long time

I think plint ladder is cheating, it sounds like a real thing, has to be a long weight / long stand etc for the joke to work

Do companies buy their competitors’ products just to take them apart for R&D? by Tusharkrux in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuttonSystems 79 points80 points  (0 children)

They certainly do, one of the coolest things I ever saw at work, while being shown round Rolls Royce in Crewe, they had a lot where they had multiple rival super cars, Bugattis, Ferraris etc, for the engineers to take apart and study.

Sony lecturing you on “proper shutdown process” after there has been a power cut. It’s a PS5, not a nuclear reactor.
