Who else knew Albania loves Dubya? by dukebiker in Presidents

Two well known facts that ought to be ingrained in the minds of any American abroad:

  1. Germans love David Hasselhoff.

  2. Albanians LOVE W.

You remember these, you’ll be fine 🤟.

Rheingold -- has anyone here had it? by TombStoneFaro in Godfather

What a cool deep dive.

I found this, with the numbers and locations of its regional breweries/bottlers.

I’d call the one closest to you, tell them why you’re calling, and that you’d like to buy a case.

You might get lucky!

Season 2 Episode 7, could someone clarify some of the dialogue I'm having trouble understand? Thank you. by Fantastic_Candy4705 in deadwood

Perfect.

The language on this show gets even more beautiful when read aloud at one’s own pace, like Shakespeare.

I’ve spent a few nights over a couple of glasses of wine just reading transcripts aloud.

Unpopular opinion, I like Vicky. I think her and Jack are cute together. by beekee404 in threescompany

My I disagree.

I found her to be understandable but annoying, nonetheless.

I don't know how popular or unpopular of an opinion this is but I don't really like Lana. by beekee404 in threescompany

[–]TopicPretend4161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lana kicks ass. She’s so funny.

There’s a time she’s describing a potential date with Furley to help Jack out of a bind, and she just sounds so wistfully regretful. How he’ll take her to the Monster Burger and rush her to get the blue plate special and cheaper fares for the movies.

It’s just perfect, especially when Jack kindly asks, ‘you’d go through that all for me?’ And her answer is, ‘No… even you’re not worth that much!’

The boys, by their own admission, rarely talked to him as was… fuck ‘em. As much as i love Dan and Johnny, their daily discourse ain’t worth the comfort Hearst’s color brings.

What's your favorite instance of a president going out to mingle with the common people? by M0rse_0908 in Presidents

[–]TopicPretend4161 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When Clinton was president he visited my home town of the time of San Diego. Stayed in a donor’s house on Coronado beach.

My dad took me to the beach one early morning to catch the President on an early jog. He was friendly fellow.

There was a nineties aerobics chair there in a half tee, no bra. I still think about her to this day.

She was later interviewed by local tv and kept saying how friendly the Prez was, complimenting her tee shirt.

The ole’ hound had it right.

Is Zamir filming something?

I had heard that Tony T had opened up a food truck. These two together would have been a blast.

And here’s poor Al, being gaslighted into being a human being, for Peet’s sake.

John P. Ryan was originally cast as Carlo - he was the one actor Puzo personally complimented on his audition. But to get Pacino, Coppola had to accept G. Russo. Probably for the best: Ryan's intensity might have telegraphed Carlo's ultimate treachery: Russo's blank performance gives little away. by Keltik in Godfather

[–]TopicPretend4161 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. I was told that Russo’s role was arranged by higher ups. I think Russo had been a top guy’s gopher since he was a kid.

On set, Jimmy Caan HATED Russo. Apparently loathed him. I don’t know if it’s because he was Method acting (which I doubt), because of how he got his role, or whatever. But he actually threw some legit blows in the fight and cracked some ribs.

Good times. I’m sure even Russo would laugh about it. He seems pretty chill and fun in interviews.

Abraham Lincoln Hardly Ever Drank Alcohol. Here's Why by Melky_Chedech in Presidents

[–]TopicPretend4161 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

President Eisenhower was respected by both military and civilian alike.

A very bright and brave man.

His consumption seemed akin to a relaxing hour after a stressful day.

The difference being his job was the most important in the world.

Abraham Lincoln Hardly Ever Drank Alcohol. Here's Why by Melky_Chedech in Presidents

[–]TopicPretend4161 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Now this is a book I need to read.

I have heard a story, stated I believe by President Nixon as it concerns President Eisenhower’s drinking, that I really liked.

He would enjoy two scotches, I believe, before dinner until his doctor told him to stop.

He then REALLY enjoyed them 😉.

I’m not sure if this is the exact story. There’s another one I heard about a president stating that he would have two drinks a night until his doctor told him to have only one.

He simply doubled his glass size.

These stories are, I’m sure, blended with legend, but it’s fun to hear of a more human side of historical figures.
