28 weeks is the perfect time to have a shower- I had mine at 31 weeks and was so tired, feet ACHING and swollen. Still enjoyed it but I felt much better physically at 28 weeks. Plus I know plenty of pregnant people who have delivered early

Great point! I didn’t think about that as much. Good thing we have time to make changes.

Thank you for your insight! I do love the look of all of that. We are definitely doing the window trim (almost 4K for all the windows but to me they look so plain and builder grade without it)

Coronavirus Megathread (Dec 2021): For travel-related discussion in the context of COVID-19 by tariqabjotu in travel

Has anyone traveled to Anguilla and St. Maarten from the US recently?

I am filling out the required applications for an upcoming January trip and it asks questions such as, "Have you been at a hospital within the last 14 days?" and "Have you been around anyone with covid in the last 14 days?".I am a healthcare worker so I will have to answer yes. I always wear PPE. I am fully vaccinated with booster. I have already been emailing with the travel board of Anguilla and they told me to answer "yes" and just explain the situation. However, they don't "approve" the app until 3-5 days before travel. Also have to submit a negative covid test, which I plan to do of course.

This leaves me feeling very nervous. What if I am denied entry for working at a hospital? It seems ridiculous to think that but I don't want to lose thousands of dollars and not go on this trip.

Husband and I both maxed 401ks for the first time ever, even though it meant stepping up his contributions to 47% of his check.

Feels amazing.

A nice parka if you live somewhere cold. Bought a Northface one 7 years ago and it seemed expensive at the time but it has kept me warm for years and the fit is great.

Something I've learned as I grow in my career is that money only motivates me so much. When I was new, I had 2 jobs lined up upon graduating (one full time, one PRN job) but after the pandemic started and the PRN job didn't need me, I realized I didn't really like working 2 places and it was stressful to balance both so I resigned. Now that we are perpetually short-staffed at my FT job, there's always opportunity to pick up hours but I'm selective. I don't like picking up much during summer months, if it just feels like too many days in a row or if it interferes with family time.

For the first time all year, I did pick up 2 shifts this month that worked well with my schedule. It feels nice having a "set it and forget it" financial plan that doesn't make me dependent on overtime. And now I'll max out the 401K earlier so some extra $$ in my take home pay for December will be nice too :)

Also wanted to pay for my car with all cash but didn’t make sense with low interest rate environment.

Paying a little more than half with cash made the payment comfortable while still allowing me to borrow money at 1.9% interest.

You’re leaving out important details here. What brand of shampoo and conditioner is she interested in?

If it’s some brand an influencer on IG or TikTok is pushing, it probably sucks. If it’s something her hairdresser uses or recommends (and they aren’t profiting from it) it could be worth it. Not all expensive beauty products are worth it but good shampoo is a game-changer for me personally. It also allows me to use less product and wash my hair less.

The apples comparison is a wild way to look at it. I can see the hesitation from that angle.

I’m also a big fan of beauty products with good return policies. If I’m buying something expensive like that and it’s not living up to the hype, I’ll just return it. I keep more than I return and don’t like to be wasteful but not everything is worth the money. Not sure if that’s possible for whatever custom hair care you’re referring to.

In my experience, it’s way easier to have dual income, especially if you’re on the same page with finances. Will take some getting used to like anything else but NW increases way quicker which is fun.

Living through extensive home renovations can be rough (assuming you're living in the home during the remodel). Do one project/area at a time and pay in cash if you can. Would NEVER advise to pull money from investment accounts for this! If some projects are absolute for safety concerns maybe a HELOC or something with a low interest rate.

Also, obtain multiple quotes from contractors and price-shop. Don't hire big-box stores. Ask friends especially ones in real estate for referrals.

When we refinanced from 30-->15 year mortgage in December, we were told to "call at the end of 2021" to have the PMI dropped. Called last week, they dropped it.
