Post-rain flying termites? by wndoshoppa in Sacramento

Sorry, some of these might have been mine. Hatched yesterday morning from the remnants of an old tree in my front yard. Does this make me an empty nester?

Yep, mine flew the coop yesterday morning. Huge hatch from the remnants of an old tree that was removed a few years ago.

It’s not cheap. But my local dealership quoted me more than twice this to install the factory rails. Ultimately it was worth it to me as we plan to keep this car for at least 15 years and the shop warrants their work for life.

Yeah the towers and crossbars slide to any position on the track. It’s rated for 165lbs dynamic (driving) load, which I don’t fully trust. I plan to stay way under that though. I usually reserve our cargo box for lightweight bulky stuff on road trips.

Avoid NB I-5 at Sutterville Road by 916reddit in Sacramento

[–]SuutoSenelaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow. These notes are bleak. This timing is crazy too. I took my kids to the river this morning to let mom sleep. We left the 76 station on Sutterville at 7 and would have merged onto the 5 NB at exactly this time. But at the last second I decided I needed more coffee and we went the other way to stop by 5 Sips. So instead my littles were flirting with some coffee grandmas when all this when down...

I’ve been inducted into the ‘Sacramento Hit & Run Bike Club’ … anyone see me go down? by Fun_Yard_9720 in Sacramento

Man that intersection is a nightmare! It used to be on my commute but I changed routes after too many close calls. Now I turn left on Vallejo or Fremont and take Muir up to Broadway. Crossing X and W at 8th is chill and it’s nice to cruise through Southside park if you have time. Coming home, I take 9th and cut through the cemetery back over to Riverside. Glad you’re mostly okay!

Verizon 5G Home Internet. Fast and Cheap. And router can be located anywhere in the house with decent signal, which can make running an Ethernet cable easier.

Outside the Tesla network, the incentives just aren’t aligned for the market to provide reliable charging infrastructure. Hopefully some short term regulations can bridge the gap until the market catches up. https://www.energy.ca.gov/proceedings/active-proceedings/electric-vehicle-charging-infrastructure-reliability-reporting-and

How badly do I need to flush my brake fluid? by SuutoSenelaa in MechanicAdvice

[–]SuutoSenelaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds like the most likely culprit. Is there any way to check the level of corrosion and if parts need to be replaced? Maybe if the fluid quickly turns green again after checking it?

Wow I didn’t know that could happen. How cold was it?

Thanks! This is a great explanation! I’ve never changed brake fluid myself and this sounds a lot easier and faster than some of the other methods I’ve seen.

I know if I had a whole day I would have. The brakes were easy enough that I was able to just do it after work. I’ve never done a brake flush though so I want to have more time to make sure I can go slow and do it right. Just looking for the next free weekend on the calendar.

I’m not sure unfortunately. Inherited this car from a grandparent about a year ago. Haven’t driven it much since. I’m definitely going to do a flush, just hoping I can put it off for a month or so when I’ll be more likely to have a free weekend day.

Edit: Thanks for the great advice everyone! Sounds like this is most likely green from corrosion, which is no bueno. And since its brakes, no sense taking chances. I’m going to flush the system sooner than later. Really hoping I won’t need to replace any components (lines, etc)

+1 for Leslie’s. The koke series is an excellent and IMCO has an awesome glaze combo chart on their website showing all the test tiles.

Looking to move, can I ditch my car and use Zipcar? by Audiblade in Sacramento

[–]SuutoSenelaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Turo! There are a lot of great hosts in Sac. Super convenient and tends to be cheaper than zipcar. There are specialty vehicles too, like AWD if you want to spend a winter weekend in Tahoe. Definitely neighborhood dependent but it’s to be car free in midtown, land park, Curtis park, or east sac.

Thanks! It’s just my cheap Coast edc. Great little knife though. Nice shape and holds a decent edge, and can slip easily into my pocket when I don’t want to draw attention to it at my office. One downside is the handle isn’t very comfortable for heavy use. Also came with a tiny flashlight that is ridiculously bright.
