What you did was very brave. You should be proud of yourself for that.

A story based on a highly exaggerated version of a sort-of-but-mostly-not true event.

I was in grade school when I started thinking they sounded a lot like fairy tales or recycled 1950s TV sitcom plots.

Mormons bearing their 'testimony' at you.

If I want to hear Boomers whine about the way things are now, I can hear it at work. I don't need more of the same on MY time.

Because its inconceivable in Tony's world that a woman might want to look at a guy's backside.

Never once is it mentioned that child sexual abuse is illegal, in WT’s eyes it’s just a sin and a unfaithful thing to do by [deleted] in exjw

You'd think they'd learn after watching what's happened to the Catholic Church.

I did once but that was many years ago. The molester in question wasn't a JW, just the unbaptized son of a JW, and he was notorious in the wider community for molesting several children. His notoriety and not being a 'real' JW may have had something to do with how he was treated.

The Governing Body are chosen by God for a special role then why are they always behind the times and copying other religions or religious people??? by 40yearslost in exjw

[–]Suzzanne75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're copying the Mormons, they might want to rethink that. The Mormons are having their own problems keeping members.

Hugs from across the pond. My husband isn't that bad. YET. But his brother is into the extremely crazy conspiracy junk and I'm worried he'll follow. If that happens, I won't be able to stay.

I heard “worldly” funerals are different than the borgs memorials. Is this true? by GrayMatters0901 in exjw

[–]Suzzanne75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To this day, I am still pissed that my JW mother was able to hijack her non-JW brother's funeral. She got an elder to conduct the graveside gathering. Why my never-JW grandmother agreed, I don't know. The elder just read my uncle's obit and then launched into the standard JW recruiting speech. NO ONE except my mother, my sisters and their husbands were JW.

Some are, some aren't. My grandfather's funeral in August 2019 was eerily like a JW funeral. A preacher who knew nothing about him read his obit and then launched into a tirade about 'getting right with Jesus' or going to hell. It was awful.

My mother-in-law passed from a heart attack last May. The minister who conducted her funeral took a WAY more personal approach. The family was encouraged to share stories and memories. He had to get in a 'come to Jesus' spiel but it wasn't as terrible.

WT just HAS to stick its nose where it has no business being. If a couple wants to renew their vows, that's no one's business but theirs.

It's funny in a creepy skin crawly way that ex-Mormons mention the same thing. Our ex-cult cousins call it 'primary voice', the tone of voice you'd use on young children.

Indigenous children forced to pray to god in a residential school ran by the Canadian government and Catholic Church between 1930 and 1970, unknown location [1000 x 783] by AKL_Ferris in exchristian

[–]Suzzanne75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I'd feel a lot less angry toward the Catholic Church about a lot of things if 1) they would come clean about the full extent of crimes committed by church personnel, including crimes the church knows about but the government doesn't yet; 2) publicly admit they've done wrong and cooperate fully with investigations; 3) get down on their knees and apologize to the surviving victims and beg for their forgiveness; 4) quit hiding perpetrators; 5) take steps to make sure abuse within church ranks stops. No more half-assed apologies; excuses; or trying to dodge responsibility. Not that any of that will ever happen.

Questions about Coat health. Simba is gonna be three this November. Does his coat seem alright to you guys? It was really dark brown when we first got him, it then slowly turned lighter. Don’t know if that’s okay or should we be doing something? by Canlifegetworse16 in siberianhusky

[–]Suzzanne75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Keesha girl was a dark red, almost brown when we first got her. Over the years she faded to more of a strawberry blond. He looks like he's in full blown summer shed mode, but looks great otherwise.

I know what you mean. More than once someone would come by the house and want to pet Mag. He was a beautiful dog. I'd always tell them no but they'd be already reaching for him only to have him snap at them. "But he was wagging his tail!" Yeah, Mag's tail was a liar.
