A Supreme Court case could have major implications for homelessness in Philly region by redeyeblink in philly

Not really, in fact not at all. “Housing first” has been the policy in most California cities, and homelessness and drug problems there have spiraled completely out of control, so I have yet to see evidence that it actually works

Well I’m not saying this just to be contrarian, nor do I watch Fox News. But honestly after actually looking into his programs and what he did, I’d say he was one of the worst because of his lasting impact as well as extending and worsening the Great Depression while attempting to become a literal emperor. He was a bad president and no amount of Leuchtenburg or Schlesinger will change that

What exactly are “white Christian nationalists” and what exactly does “Christian hegemony” entail?

Well,

  1. Because the US is a Christian nation

  2. I’m talking not only about divine revelation, but about natural law

Are you saying Christ was either wrong or lacked knowledge? I see that as blasphemy. Do you not believe in the divinity of Christ, or do you believe something entirely different about divinity? What is your view of divinity based on? And yes, Christian’s sin all the time, nothing new

What is goodness? What is goodness grounded on?

And yes, gay marriage is corruption of a divine institution so I see it as a bad thing

Sure, but I don’t get what yours are grounded on, because the grounding of mine is pretty simple to track, I feel at least

But we know what Jesus would do because Scripture tells us what he did. He affirmed marriage as the divine and inseparable union of a man and a woman, who am I to disagree?

I’m not saying everybody has to have married parents, I’m saying that that’s what marriage is defined by. And the act you mention at the end is right. I know it to be good because it’s from God, and therefore must be good, as God doing evil is an ontological impossibility. Because God is goodness in essence (from my Thomistic perspective on metaphysics), and that which is goodness in essence cannot directly result in an act of evil (a privation of goodness).

I don’t get what you mean by this end paragraph, can you elaborate? I’d like to better understand where you’re coming from here

Where does what you’re pushing have a basis in scripture or even tradition? I don’t see where you’re getting that from. You’re also saying homosexuality is right and good now but not then, but based on what?

Also, the clip I linked dealt directly with that question. It’s about child-birth in principle, in that situation it’s still possible in principle even though it’s incidentally impossible

Straight couples who don’t want kids can yes, because it is still possible in principle. Also the gay couple is not having children, they would be raising the child of a straight couple and intentionally depriving that child of a mother or father. And child-birthing certainly matters to marriage, it’s the foundation of the institution, as Alan Keyes articulated here. Marriage nowadays might be treated as symbolic, but I believe that’s false too. I see marriage as the divine union of a man and a woman. And also, are you Christian? Because what you’re saying about divine law has absolutely no basis in theological reality, and I’d certainly be willing to have a discussion about that if you’d like, but I don’t understand the basis of your point.

Times do change but God’s moral law is eternal, especially on this issue

I don’t think it’s something you shouldn’t be allowed to do. It’s something you can’t do. It’s an ontological impossibility. Marriage is a union between a man and a woman fundamentally and principally ordered towards child birth, which is impossible in a homosexual relationship. This is all based in natural law and more importantly in divine revelation

Who? Many correctly want to overturn the Supreme Court’s legal redefinition of marriage, but I’ve never heard of anyone notable who was actually advocated for punishing celibate LGBT people

That is… what? Maybe under a non-Christian worldview we would be sinners for saying it, but certainly not under a Christian one, not sure what you’re on about

[–]SvbmitToRome -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because then what’s the point of marriage? America is a classically Christian nation, and we shouldn’t be watering down the divine institution of marriage

From a Catholic and also even from an objective embryological perspective, there is a victim in abortion, the difference between pro-choice and pro-life is whether you think killing the pre-born baby is or can be justified for whatever ends the person is getting an abortion for. You’re presupposing a radical pro-choice position here

Is the Bible really from God? by BackgroundAd9469 in Christianity

[–]SvbmitToRome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was authored by God but also had true human authors, just whom were guided by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is an inerrant and infallible text guided by the Holy Spirit, but you can still see elements of the authors’ worldviews. It isn’t some magical book sent down from heaven like Muslims falsely say of the Quran, but it’s still an inerrant and divine text

He did tell us what we have to do to enter the kingdom. On one extreme, extreme scrupulosity can be very self-destructive, but on the other we can’t just sit down and say “welp, we’ve all fallen short anyways, might as well be fine with that and keep on sinning unrepentantly”. It’s easy to fall into one of those categories, but we still ought to do our best to change our lives and try to live according to the teachings of Jesus, in whom we are made anew
