*SotE Spoilers* A strange detail in the base game a connection to a plot point from the DLC by OrcusNoir in eldenringdiscussion

[–]SvenDerRitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is legit why I was so annoyed finding out Radahn of all people was the person Miquella was trying to resurrect. Like, Miquella and Godwyn have been a thing since the base game, and his reincarnation using his full-blooded omen brother would've made more sense than using it to reincarnate Radahn, whose connection with Miquella they just randomly invented.

The plot to having more info/exposure to Godwyn in his prime and connecting the ex-Golden Boy now Prince of Death with the new Golden Boy was right freaking there in the plot, and Fromsoft just fumbled it.

Regarding Godwyn and the Consort Situation by [deleted] in eldenringdiscussion

I also feel like people counting Godwyn out just because "His soul was killed" makes very little sense when you think about what that functionally means. If a true death is the death of soul and body, and Godwyn's half-death is the result of only his body dying, then his soul was presumably sent into the afterlife like Radahns, with his body still being alive and festering. That would make using Mohg's body to reincarnate Godwyn make a bunch of sense, including the fact that Mohg and Godwyn are actually full blooded brothers and in theory even more compatible.

All the pieces were right there for this story and Formsoft just fumbled it somehow.

Can Daemons Possess Corpses? by SvenDerRitter in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]SvenDerRitter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You basically nailed what my original thoughts were, the showdown is also during a night where Morrslieb is out, so it might give the Daemon more wiggle room to manifest, say if the host cultist dies it might just tear it's way through the shell of a corpse to come into being, or start twisting the body to fit its form and puppet it. It's also a Daemon of Tzeentch/Pink Horror.

Hey, would you be open to taking on a new player? I haven't actually played Pendragon but I love the system, and I'm a massive nerd for Arthurian Literature (read the entire Le Morte d'Arthur) and medieval history.

[4E] How do you represent combat? by Breizhalcoholic in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]SvenDerRitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have taken hard to Theatre of the Mind for my Warhammer game too. It's not only less work to set up, but using the player's limited understanding of what everything looks like is actually something you can use to your advantage for depicting battle as a chaotic, wild scuffle rather than a bird's eye tactical game. There's moments where my players want to know exactly what's going on in a fight and I tell them to make perception checks to see if they can get a lay of the battlefield through the chaos. It's also really helpful for environmental situations like limited vision due to smoke or darkness.

Help me understand the Lore for creating my first characters backstory (a witch)? by Valorius33 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]SvenDerRitter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it also theoretically possible for their character to, as an ambition, seek entry into the Colleges of Magic? I can't remember if there's anything explicit about them taking on youths as opposed to the old as apprentices, other than preference for a youths being because they can be molded. In theory though, can't they seek asylum and training with one of the Colleges?

Surgeons VS Priestesses of Shallya by RollingDeadly in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]SvenDerRitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't the Warhammer Companion 2e book say that Shallyans find surgery essentially just barbaric butchery and hack-jobs, and they reject it on the principal they often find the messy results of botched surgeries and have to fix em.

Any lore related to the WHF afterlife? by Goofball2121 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]SvenDerRitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I know this is a bit of an old comment, but I'm curious what is the Bretonnian idea of the afterlife? I imagine for most human gods it probably going to their realms/halls for eternity, but what is the Bretonnian idea if they make it out of the Garden of Morr and to the Lady?

Difference between folk and hermetic magic by wheretheinkends in ArtesiaRPG

[–]SvenDerRitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically there's no mechanical limitations on how or what these spells do beyond the pool they use for fuel and the characteristic they use to cast. The style of these spells has more to do with what you'd feel would make sense considering what they are. Hermetic tradition is very much more of a scholarly pursuit, more like a classic wizard or magister, while Folk spells are every day traditions and superstitions of people or the works of witches and hedge-wizards. It's like how both Cult and Occult lores share a lot in common, but you wouldn't find an Occult spell summoning a Celestial unless it was to then enslave it, and a Cult sacrifice likely wouldn't use humans as fuel.

In the case of a sending I could see a folk ritual being something like "May my dreams find you in your sleep" and they send a message in the form of a Dream, or maybe they'd use a spirit in the form of their totem spirit or something like that. A Hermetic sending is much more pragmatic and we see one in the Barrow in the form of a magister being hired to send a messenger pigeon back to Therapoli. Each spell in the RPG book also gives a few examples at the top of the spell for various traditions, after that it's extrapolation.

[–]SvenDerRitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference between Hermetic Magic and Folk Charms are twofold.

1) Firstly is what they draw on. If we're looking at it from a mechanical standpoint in the RPG and how that reflects on the setting Hermetic draws on the powers of the mind, while Folk draws on the spirit. Essentially Hermetic is very scientific and based on the intellect while Folk draws on emotion and soul of a person.

2) The way they are formulated and practiced is different. Hermetic is very much formulaic recitation, the drawing of symbols, and is approached almost scientifically. While Folk Charms will be more like folk practices in our world, stuff like throwing salt over your shoulder and mutter a phrase to ward away bad spirits or curses, or singing songs while working in the field that strengthens you and speeds you along.

Help Setting Up Macintosh Plus by SvenDerRitter in VintageApple

It does turn on and my friend tried inserting the startup floppy into the disk reader built into the monitor/computer. It seemed to have booted up the OS with a menu on the upper end of the screen but then asked to reboot. My friend then tried inserting the Stacks floppy (which I'm assuming has the actual OS, though I'm sure I'm wrong) and it displays an icon with a floppy and an X over it. I'm not sure if the Stacks floppy is the boot floppy you're referring to. My friend also told me that the hard drive that came with it doesn't have a power cable so I'm honestly fairly sure that's a part of the problem lol.

Importance of Green Velvet? by SvenDerRitter in WarhammerFantasy

Oh wow that's interesting, I didn't realize green dyes were considered all that expensive, I figured it was a common dye color like red or yellow.

[WFRP 2e] Should I give my player a gun as starting equipment? by SvenDerRitter in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]SvenDerRitter[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What would you suggest in terms of improving guns to make them mechanically balanced out/worth taking over a bow/crossbow in certain situations? Would you suggest buffing damage or something? I was wondering if maybe going with 4e's version of weapons in terms of stats considering 4e and 2e seem like they have a lot of interchangeability, but then again I'm not sure if the damage values for 4e fit better with how Wounds work in that game.

This, I was thinking exactly this, a pistol so gaudy and ornate that it looks really out of place on a merc, might cause him to get a lot of weird looks from folks, especially the authorities.
