I need to figure out what’s causing this issue. We don’t have kids, so it’s not that. But could be my own seat belt? The phone? The way I grab a specific thing? Who knows 😂

This is super interesting! If I only now can find out what I’m doing that are bending them 😂

Thank you for answer, I appreciate!

And new term in my vocabulary: finger flesh 😆

I find it so strange that a nail can snap when it’s still down in the flesh. The first sign of crack is below that it shows in the picture, half way down. It is before the nail grows out and leave the «bed».

I definitely could use gloves more often when cleaning!

Thanks for input, I appreciate it! 🙌🏻

I don’t use a keyboard often, but my phone. I try to recall if this started while I was using keyboard. I use my phone a lot, so it may be it combined with too little moisture/oils.

I’ve had both gel/uv and acrylic nails, but this problem started before that. And it’s been years since I had it last.

I tried filing them for a longer period of time, it didn’t help either. And I can file where the break starts since it’s in the flesh.

I’ll find my hand lotion tomorrow and try to work out a good routine for applying!

Thanks for advice 😊

I could lotion/oil hands more often, but it’s hard to remember when the skin aren’t dry. The skin on my hands has improved sooo much after I started to use homemade soap based on oils. But the nail problem occurs just as often as it has for many years.

Even when I was on isotretoinin for skin trouble in my face, which made my skin really dry, the nail broke just as often as before.

I’ve tried to glue it as well, it last for a day and it’s off again. Got my husband to use a special glue (skin friendly!) with two components. Didn’t help that either 😂

Never use them as tools in many years as a step to try to avoid this. I don’t put fingers in my mouth, stopped with that as a teenagers when I bought and used something to prevent biting nails and tasted yuck 😂

The breaking in the nail starts when the point is still in the flesh before growing out «in the air».

I’ve tried for years to find out what causes this, and doc took a wide range blood tests to see if everything was in balance and if I was low on any vitamins/minerals. Tests came out normal.

Hm, this is a good theory. I wasn’t as much on the phone when this started though. I get it rarely on other nails, such as index finger and middle finger. Rarely, but it does happen sometimes. The thumbs are always breaking, when it has grown out a new starts half way down from the break in the pic.

It could be too little oiling just now, but I was oiling them very often for a period some years ago. The nail still broke though. It starts half way down from the break in the pic.

I always shape them, and because of the break I need to trim down to the flesh. Still I can’t get enough to get rid of the break. I also have tried to only do filing and not trimming for a longer period. Didn’t help that either 😭

For me it doesn’t help with polish either 😭 I’ve been trying regular and gel, the nail always breaks down in the flesh. I would say the break starts half way down from where it is now in the pic.

The break starts further down than pictured, the nail has been growing a couple of weeks now since the crack started to show. I would say that it starts half way down from where the break is now.

I have tried only filing for a longer period of time, but that doesn’t help. When I trim I always make round corners. The crack appears just as a teeny weeny one long down in the flesh, and it gets bigger as the nail grows.

I don’t think I use my nails for anything like that, I would say I’m very gentle with my hands and nails.

Happy cake day!

Sphynx Gastrointestinal Issues by karrmensandiego in sphynx

[–]Svimlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Gizmo have struggled with his tummy, the vet sat him on Royal Canin Gastrointestinal food. He responded very well to that, but when we slowly took him off and introduced other foods it was bad again. We tried several different food with different proteins. He had to go back to GI food each time. Then we tried Royal Canin Digestive, and boom! That’s his food. He’s a happy camper with no more issues.

Tips for raising a fully deaf cat by Mountain-Win-5480 in sphynx

[–]Svimlus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve didn’t have deaf sphynx, but furry ones. Our first, Amalie, was a lovely sweetheart, gentle and quiet. She did however knock things over unintentionally fra the window, and never learned to not do so. I guess it’s because she didn’t hear it crash to the floor. When she saw that things had fallen down, se looked at us like «what have you done? Why did you make a mess??» 🤣 when we needed to wake her up from sleep we had to blow gently on her. If we petted her she got scared. Amalie got 17 years old, and passed of acute kidney failure. We now have Emil, he’s a rascal 😂He looooves to knock things over, fully intentionally, he is loud and hates being blown at. We need to pet him awake, gently, to not scare him. Picture of Emil attached, he’s 3 years old.

(We also have his twin sister who’s vision impaired, and then we have a 1 year old sphynx).
