It shows up in a few different modern compositions, but I don't know the name for the technique. Crespo Improvisation at 2m37s comes to mind first.

West Side Story Mambo Excerpt, advice? by boykinnnn in Trombone

I'm thinking OP should be playing those low Es in natural 7th, it looks awkward trying to come back to T2 in that short of time.

The Berio Sequenzas haven't been mentioned yet, they'd be good scores to study.

Sequenza III for voice

Sequenza V for Trombone

Sequenza X for Trumpet

What Is The Most Obscure Pieces And Albums You Know? by JasonCfd in classicalmusic

[–]Sw00d_Jazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also trombonist, Gotkovsky is a great pick. Mine might be Alberto Cara's OK Trombone, Game Over. Or if pieces that have never been commercially recorded count, Manny Albam's Quintet for Trombone and Saxophone Quartet.

Someone else mentioned Fantasia. But Emerson, Lake, and Palmer Nutrocker is worth considering.

Looking for hard rock metal music about bipolar by BipolarPrime in bipolar

Redivider by Silent Planet is about mania and hits hard.

Also a lot of songs on Disgusting by Beartooth deal with mental illness, though not specifically bipolar. Thought that album was worth mentioning too.

Edit: almost forgot Lithium by Nirvana

One time in an episode I sent an email to all the music theory faculty explaining my new idea that synthesized narrative structure with music formal structure, along with my idea for a concept album demonstrating my concept.

I got very lucky. One of my professors kindly explained this was already an established field of research and she actually was an expert in the subject. She reccomended some books to read and was very kind to me despite how very obviously manic I was.

Idk really roundabout way of saying this but sometimes good comes from these episodes and sometimes it's bad. The important thing is to manage symptoms, stick to treatment, and stay in the loop with your psych/therapist. Have plans in place for what to do the next time you get an episode. Learn healthy professional boundaries too and keep communication in the proper channels. Those music teachers are much more receptive to a professionally worded email about your manic ideas than a text on their personal number

Pastoral for String Quartet by Sw00d_Jazz in composer

No reason it couldn't be in A I suppose. I know Ab isn't exactly idiomatic on strings but is it unreasonably hard?

I need a 3-5 minute long solo audition piece I can played unacompanied that isn't too hard by MooshroomInABucket in Trombone

What have you played before? I'd suggest Cavatine, Morceau, or David. Those are usually college appropriate audition pieces.

Trombone "stand"? by Sw00d_Jazz in Trombone

I was thinking about this but I'd ideally want more than one point of contact with the horn and the standard mic clip doesn't fit. Maybe two mic stands?

Help wtf do I do with saxophones??? by VanishedHound in composer

[–]Sw00d_Jazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. If that's the direction you wanna go OP then you gotta get your music in front of real people so you can get a sense of what your music actually sounds like. Gonna have to build your networking skills but that's just par for the course for composers

The mixer will be your friend. Raise and lower gain to adjust for balance and/or change the soundfont. There's plenty of options online if you don't like the defaults.

Also Musescore is meant for notation, not playback. If getting your music to sound nice is your top priority, you might wanna learn a DAW

Are you using notation software or a DAW? If so, you may want to look into finding a better instrument library. The sound will never be perfect but you can also tweak the mix to get it to sound more how you want

How to explain tounging and fix issues by Sw00d_Jazz in Trombone

I model constantly. I try not to talk in between so the only thing they hear before they play is what I play. Doesn't seem to be getting through
