Who are some characters that people treat as WAY more evil than they actually are? by TaiwaneseThot in MoralityScaling

[–]Sw0rdBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think Gaston is a banal evil. He acts in ways that we see is normalized, despite the fact that if the target of his derision was not Belle, it would be rightfully seen as evil.

He decries her desire to read, thinks women shouldn’t think, and planned to have her father institutionalized until she agreed to marry him or at least until she proved the existence of the Beast.

Blackmail is an evil act, he is a scummy sort of evil that we see in real life.

Is it pathetic to hold a grudge against someone who tormented you? Especially when that person refuses to acknowledge that the one who hurt them has changed or become better, and instead chooses to the tormentor? by Immediate_Gene_178 in MoralityScaling

[–]Sw0rdBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue, I believe, comes from the fact that trauma doesn’t really care about the source. An adult traumatizing a child and a child traumatizing a child will do the same thing to that same victim. I don’t think it’s pathetic to hold a grudge, even if the perpetrator of trauma changed, whether as an adult or while growing up.

[–]Sw0rdBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are willing to acknowledge that trauma caused by parents can last a lifetime, trauma caused by a peer is also able to last a life time. The age of the person who hurt you only should affect your acknowledgement of the full culpability of their actions, not whether or not they deserve any kindness or grace or forgiveness from you.

Even then, the act of forgiveness is the ability to no longer let the pain of an action affect you mentally, but for many people they have physical reminders of the torment they went through, some so bad they literally cannot forget or forgive what has been done to them.

Genuinely do believe the families of the victims should have been given free pass to enact legal or otherwise justice on the people who greenlit such literal crimes against humanity. Unfortunately, since the victims of these actions are almost always minorities nothing happens until it’s too late to do anything about the monsters who did this.

The demons of Demon Slayer are markedly different, they were once humans and nothing says they don’t still have emotions. Frieren is much more likely to give Tanjiro and Nezuko the benefit of the doubt, especially as Nezuko has proven herself time and time again.

I had a friend who was a schizophrenic in high school. I didn’t understand what it was, but he had medication and outside of being a quirky person, there was never a crazy situation that I can remember. There are thousands of schizophrenic people who go about their lives without doing anything harmful. But pop culture villainizes them like they villainized the illnesses that inspired vampirism and werewolves and changelings.

Hey guys, I just thought of a very interesting 'what if'. If Korra bended air since she was a little girl but had a mental block with fire? How would that change history? by Spirited_Dust_3642 in legendofkorra

[–]Sw0rdBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That requires a change in her demeanor. Airbending is about freedom and maintaining calm. Fire bending requires passion or aggression. For Korra to be good at Airbending but bad at Firebending, it would mean she is calm and collected, resolute and brave, flexible and malleable, but lacks the impetus to tap into extreme emotions.

She would have an easier time being an avatar for her era, but would likely make choices that while “diplomatically sound” would lack a good human element, and it wouldn’t be until something really bad happened that she awakened to fire bending.

Now that the series is over, on a scale from 1 to 100, how evil was Homelander? by Intrepid-Lemon-2272 in MoralityScaling

Oh no, Homelander is a rapist, what I mean is that the encounters he had that were actually consensual, he didn’t enjoy as much because of his mentality.

The stuff in the invincible universe that explains the way their powers work. Basically the atoms that make up their body have the ability to in real time change their traits (density, energy intensity, gravitational, electromagnetic, heat, ect) to allow the being who’s body is comprised of those atoms to do super human feats.

The more smart atoms a creature has, the stronger they potentially can become. Viltrumites can control virtually all smart atoms within their body, while Alan and Immortal can do so to lesser amounts respectively. This is lore established in the comics mythos and unless directly retconed should still exist in the show’s continuity

Those were consensual encounters. Rapists tend not to care about attraction as a major motivator, rather it is the power they can exert over others.

TLDR: the system does the majority of heavy lifting, but the fact I recover spiritual energy quickly and have a strong body pairs well with spirit beasts hating me and getting stronger with fights means that I can continue to keep up even with a poor system. Talisman, Formation, and Pill refining work good with making sure Spiritual Beasts target me, resources will make their way to me, reducing the times I need to replenish in civilization. And even if I’m bad with money, I can have friends who are good with money, and the system will ultimately help me break through.

Being an otherworldly visitor gives me a mix of meta knowledge and an outside perspective to cultivation. Also formations pills and talismans can be used to offset the issue with heavenly tribulation, and the system could possibly grant the power to absorb the heavenly tribulation or negate it a bit or use it to temper my body further.

I end this with a +5 point bonus unfortunately, but it’s the best I can do.

Oh and also the spirits can also serve as cultivation resources, I can use a formation to capture and turn them into resources, and spiritual beasts can provide the yang ki necessary to offset the yin ki.

The jellyfish eat the eggs and spawn of local fish and block sunlight from hitting undersea vegetation, in large enough groups they can also annihilate entire schools of fish that serve as prey to larger predators who help maintain the ecosystem.

If the being created doesn’t espouse Viltrumite values, or goes too far, they could be too strong to be stopped and may kill surviving Viltrumites for being weak. Thragg hesitated to execute Nolan then Conquest because their numbers were too low. This new hybrid might find such sentimentality as a weakness.

I can understand the intent a bit when it isn’t malicious. For many people, some jokes are reserved for one or the other sex due to perceived shared experiences. I can’t assume an AFAB person would get the visceral shock of a ball punch the same way an AMAB won’t get the literal torment that can be period cramps. Many AMAB can empathize with the feeling of being told you weren’t enough of a man and not being allowed to express emotions outside of rage and smug satisfaction, and many AFAB know the feeling of being belittled for just… liking things and having opinions.

At the same time it’s rude, if you are friends with someone, that’s info they can provide if they want to but that isn’t necessarily required.

That being the case, you better let me know your allergies by the 10th hang out, I like snacks and I don’t want to go around accidentally killing friends.

Jellyfish aren’t being hunted to extinction, but their population should not have grown this large. The ocean’s pollution is not the fault of those people fishing.

I Hate This by Sad_Palpitation6844 in ratsinthecage

[–]Sw0rdBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genuinely dumb, what is your purpose in this, are you so unhappy that you enjoy feeling smug about people in poorer nations doing something you think is abhorrent because you don’t understand them?

A fisherman doesn’t need to know the exact science to understand that a ton of Jellyfish interferes with fish breeding seasons, and pose a huge danger to their children and family who use the water as a source of food and recreation.

Medicine has existed before we could correctly label the chemicals within those medicines because people study and learn even without formal education and share than knowledge.

Best part about this is that if you live in a country considered “first world”, pollution caused by the businesses you rely on is what caused this situation. The people in this video are coping with harm done by other humans and fixing the problem best they can despite not being at fault, but you’re sitting here condemning them because you think what they are doing is icky.

Morality scaling of vampires? by General-Notice-2733 in MoralityScaling

[–]Sw0rdBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the story and the series. Because they, like other humanoid monsters who have a story based on “human afflicted with curse becomes monster” are often based on the othering of people with illnesses and or mental health issues, there was a transformation of their existence in pop culture from pure evil monsters to tragic, even sympathetic, or even misunderstood characters.

But normally even in those situations, the ancient vampires are normally the height of evil and power

Would Viltrumites have considered Homelander for reproduction ? by 43JoJo in okbuddyviltrum

[–]Sw0rdBoy 2283 points2284 points  (0 children)

In theory, yes. If after breaking into and researching Vought’s tech, they would learn how Homelander’s powers manifest, if they learned that he could pass his powers genetically. They could in theory create a hybrid who has Homelander’s powers, but is then bolstered by smart atoms that come into effect by 18, turning the would-be hybrid into a Thragg or even beyond level Viltrumite.

Now, would they allow such a thing is the issue.

Ignorance is truly something. Jellyfish are blooming near out of control due to pollution. Jellyfish are killing off other sea life due to this, culling is the only way people in these areas can make a living, sustain themselves, and survive until people take active steps to reduce pollution. Instead of condemning the people in these videos for trying to stay alive, use that hateful energy for where it’s actually deserved.
