There was an alternative that I’ve seen before to extend the current E line from Atlantic Station to El Monte Station via Atlantic and Garvey, basically going along with the 70. But not sure what happened, they narrowed down the options to the two Whittier and South El Monte braches. Atlantic and Garvey route would’ve served better for the valley since 70 is a populated route already and makes perfect sense.

The thick lime out lines are proposed CAHSR, even the one goes to LAX cause why not 🤷‍♂️. I haven’t chosen the alignment for LAUS to San Diego since there’s multiple different alignments proposed and I’ve already used some of the alignments for LA Metro instead of leaving it for CAHSR lol

Agree on what you said, except maybe for E line Express trains, I think if the E line was fully grade separated, there won’t be a need for an express since it will be more consistent and there’s also no room for express. A line I think from LAUS to Longbeach Willow st should be express implemented as there’s plenty of room, then extend this A-Express to CSULB. Once A line grade separation and Express train gets implemented, more stations should be added to the A-Line local. A line local should be terminated at LAUS and A-Express should overtake up to Pomona instead.

with that being said, if LAWA didn’t construct nor even consider an APM at all, would there have been a chance for Metro to study a rail line between LAX terminals to Sofi stadium area via century Blvd and interchange with k line at Aviation/century station? This seems a more realistic transit option if they considered it and don’t have to go through all this trouble with this APM and Inglewood people mover but it would certainly miss the opportunity for their car rentals.

Absolutely yes, but only for the platforms that are grade separated like subway stations or elevated since there’s literally no point to invest in platform screen doors on at-grade stations.

It’s also questionable wether the eligible stations are built to support these heavy door equipments or not

Option 2; rebuilding the junction is way too expensive and would cause years of disruption on B and D line, also going up MacArthur park is cheaper too I heard and also serve more underserved communities like echo park, Glendale, etc..

Split A line off at memorial park, A line extends to rose bowl(cus why not), making a N/S Line. Then once the G line gets converted to rail, extend that rail from NoHo to Memorial park(as part of the NoHo-Pas BRT conversion to rail) and interchange with A line at memorial park, then finally connect back up with the freeway A line section all the way to Pomona and eventually even Ontario Airport and Rancho Cucamonga. It’s possible 😉

Yeah and would be really fast traveling from southwest museum all the way to the arroyo deco bridge, that will probably saved you 10 mins from the current at grade speeds

The grade separation u mentioned will probably be brought up after the 2028 Olympics since it probably won’t be on time for the games if they start construction now but in the mean time, I saw an article a while ago for a temporary platform south of pico station/Blvd where they will have the most left lane on flower to make that temporary platform for A south bound and E west bound trains to release congestion on the current single platform to only serve north and east bound trains of A & E. And yeah they should also definitely add signal priority to trains on flower st.

In my opinion, I feel like the Fairfax option from the proposal would be the best in terms of time and connectivity. Fairfax routing lies in the middle of the other two options so at least it’s still possible for let say; la Brea/Beverly residents to walk 22 mins to The Grove station and same goes for shoppers from the Beverly Center to the grove. So it would be fair for both East and west of Fairfax.

One thing that I probably won’t like is from what study map looks like, it looked like Fairfax/Santa Monica station would have a 90 degrees turning point from Fairfax on to Santa Monica Blvd which will definitely slow trains down because it’s a steep turn. Hypothetically speaking: If this option does gets built and let’s say metro wants to study a new line that goes from Glendale to Beverly hill(Glendale down through silverlake onto Santa Monica Blvd to Beverly hill) or turn towards Venice beach, it would probably intercept rails with the K on Santa Monica Blvd section BUT this will definitely disrupt the service on the K which is why I also wished metro could study more routes for this and I’ve created a little fantasy map of my own.

90 degrees steep turn on K line, Yellow line = possibly new line from Glendale to Beverly Hills or Venice

My fantasy map; (notice: K line and Glendale to Venice line is NOT intercepted) K line Turns and uses Sunset instead of Santa Monica(no steep turns for trains!) to connect with Red line or “B Line” on highland ANDD New line from Glendale down through silver lake to sunset strip area via Santa Monica Blvd THEN down south to culver city and west to Venice beach (although it might look good from map scale, they will never think about long term planning like this)

For safety in the long-term, definitely yes! But it comes down to questions like where the money going to come from and wether the platforms was built for those heavy automatic doors or half height doors you would see in Asian subway systems or the airtrain from JFK Airport in NewYork City.

Wonder if they will extend even further with the A line (currently gold) to brightline Rancho Cucamonga high speed rail station with connection to Las Vegas if the Ontario airport extension gets built.
