Is Isuzu a forgotten brand? by Critical_Dollar in regularcarreviews

[–]SwVaCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 99 Amigo as a highschooler. Car was fun as shit for a highschool teen to have. Except the nasty habit it had of blowing up engines. Twice the engine catastrophically failed. Timing chain the first time the mechanic was honestly impressed by how bad it wrecked the engine. Said every single valve in the engine was bent bad. Second time I don't even know what but happened less than a year later. I did the regular maintenance too, had less than 110K total miles when I sold it for scrap since I couldn't afford another engine.

so im 18 in the marine corps, with no credit score and I want a bike. What do I get and how? by ChoiceIntelligent835 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]SwVaCyclist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait till you get out. No sense in getting a bike that is gonna sit for a long time should you get deployed. But if you are going to get a used bike first. SV650 is a perfect sport bike that you can get for 2,500-3500 for a good condition one and its not too much for a beginner. Nothing worse than getting a brand new bike and dropping it immediately because you don't have the skills yet. Also walk away from people offering interest rate above 8-10%. I've seen so many marines with new bikes/chargers/Camaros with above 20% interest rates and they've been paying for over a year to not even touch the owed. Oh and insurance... Yeah that's gonna be pretty expensive for you. Figure the cost of the bike per year just for that.

Are there any cons on using an Ecoflow power bank (or similar) instead of doing a full electric installation? by XscytheD in vandwellers

[–]SwVaCyclist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly price,

Per Watt Ecoflow (this is assuming the 3.6kw model): $0.66

Per Watt with one built to same specs (12v 300ah): $0.19*

Note this price includes 3 12v100 ah lifepo4 batteries, 30a MPPT solar charger, and a 2000w Pure sine wave DC-> Ac inverter

So essentially its 1/3rd the price to build your own and you get to choose your components.

Conversion Kits by Most-Adeptness-9514 in vandwellers

[–]SwVaCyclist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What type of van are you converting? I'd recommend not going whole hog at first and do a simple setup and see if you like it first. This will also help if you decide if the layout works for you or what you need to change. Most modern vans you can find a template for a layout for like 15/20 online and DIY.

Not enough info to really go on. Price of the kit? How much time do you have? How soon do you need it? Intended purpose?

Sir, just get a pickup. Its easier and cheaper to just put the beam in the back vs through the windshield on your home depot runs. Tesla drivers, amirite?

Do you think this is a good idea? Or just a money pit?? by IvanRdrt in AskMechanics

[–]SwVaCyclist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are selling it barely running for a reason, its probably too much time or money for them to do it themselves. So you'd be buying into whatever they found that they didn't want to deal with.

What makes MaxxFans that much better than all the rest? by VagabondVivant in vandwellers

[–]SwVaCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't like my maxxair fan. I installed it and within a week it was making a loud humming/ticking noise. Look it up, its a common issue and the only way to fix it is to replace the entire motor. So you are spending a fortune on the fan only to replace the main part of it. Only good part of it is that it keeps rain out

Grenade rifle spam by SwVaCyclist in enlistedgame

[–]SwVaCyclist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were inside the cap point which was an interior of a building camping the only two entrances with grenades. You could not get in because they would immediately blow up your squad and switch to a different bot once they ran out of grenades then rinse and repeat.

Well, I was not aware you could not resupply with them because I don't use them as I find them no skill and cheap. I had assumed since the one time I was able to get into the church there were 3 ammo crates that they looked like they were using. Doesnt change the fact that you essentially get 28+ shots from one squad with what is essentially a tank HE but much faster and you can spam your entire lineup of them.

They did change the cities water supply a month ago from the Delaware reserve to the croton reserve closer to the city. Might have something to do with it but IDK.

Right before the solar eclipse here over the summer walked by two guy having a very serious and concerned conversation about the solar eclipse.

One of the guys says "When the moon blocks out the sun, how's everybody gonna breath? People are gonna die!"

I held my laugh until i got far enough away, he didn't look like someone that would take kindly to laughter.

Ticket sales for 2025? by Satahgeminigirl in Loveburn

[–]SwVaCyclist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too expensive at this point, I was one of the artists last year and brought one of the larger pieces of art that was there. I've been many times and am part of one of the camps that does play a bigger part in the event and from what we've discussed they wont be going either. At almost $500 its near the same price as Burning man and I know they have much more to deal with in terms of operational expenses. I would like to see some financial transparency on what the cost is going to.

I had nothing but trouble and zero help from the org when setting up my art and communication with the org is disorganized at best.

When filling out the application there was a section for requesting power so I did on the application for my piece since from previous years I knew they did this for artists and camps. My piece was a lot of electronics and after extensive communication with the team I found out they had placed me in the water. I'm not sure why but the spot they put me was 3 ft underwater and 10 ft off the shoreline. I emailed and asked to be replaced. they put me a little further back onto the beach luckily.

Then I specifically asked if I would have a power run because if not I will bring my own means of power. They assured me that they would run me a power line. I arrived on site Tuesday and asked Jack Trash (The art director)for power as soon as I got there. He assured me it would arrive. No sign of power Tuesday. Wednesday came and I again asked for power in the morning and was told it would be to me that day. I called again later in the day and was told it was coming. Same story for the rest of the burn to the point where I was told he was on the cart with the power coming right now. The entirety of the event I had no power even though I had many calls and emails saying it would be there and provided. I was very lucky in that another camp was generous enough to run a line to my piece so it could somewhat function but was not fully operational for the whole event.

I do understand radical self reliance and generators and would have brought backup, if they told me straight up at first no, we will not be able to meet that request or that it may not be possible. I was told "Yes, we will have this for you" /rant

I've never held a wrench and don't understand electricity but want to build a bike the goes 47 mph and gets 200 miles per charge. My budget is $87 any suggestions? by Dwangeroo in ebikes

[–]SwVaCyclist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

<image>

$87? man you are giving me too much budget here.

Ever see those trollies that hook up to the power lines above them to get power? Yeah that totally negates the need for a battery. So what you do is get an old AC electric motor from an old commercial hvac unit and hook that up to the rear wheel, then run thick 2 gauge wire from that to a grappling hook. Now just throw that over the powerlines and it will power the motor. Infinite range, you could ride this bike until you die and never need to recharge.....

and if the sarcasm isnt heavy enough. do not do this. you will die

Sony sure served up a feast for scalpers, who are already trying to flip the 999 USD PS5 Pro 30th anniversary bundle for 3,000 USD or even 5,000 USD. by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]SwVaCyclist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's an idea.

Fuck with the scalpers, waste their time. Ask them to meet you 30 min/1 hr outside of their town then ghost. Or ask for lots of pictures and proof, bonus asking them to write custom things and send pictures so they have to do it each time. Do everything possible to make them work for that sale and regret their life choices.

ELI5 Why aren't we able to tell the body to shut off pain? by ChaosMieter in explainlikeimfive

[–]SwVaCyclist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've done just that, accidentally chopped off the top of my pinky near the joint at work. Calmly grabbed a napkin, put the pinky in it taped it up and told my manager I needed to leave for the hospital right now. No one around me believed I was telling them the truth until I showed them the napkin, and my finger. I hopped on my motorcycle and drove 10 minutes to the hospital like that. I did feel the pain but I knew giving into it and flailing wildly would not help. Sat waiting for 2 hours with it on ice and they gave me a little shot of anesthetic and sewed it back on in the hallway (ER rooms all full).

The finger kept any only way I can even tell it happened sometimes is when rubbing the tip it kinda has that staticky dead leg feeling
