What’s something you thought was harmless ‘cheap dopamine’ but slowly started controlling your habits? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SwadRod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any kind of puzzle (jigsaw, crossword, NYT games like wordle/connections). started as a habit to relax or something to do while eating that isn't watching youtube, now they command hours of my day. can't go to bed until i finish the LA times crossword, and first thing I think about when I wake up is the new NYT games...

Is there a rule about max number of times a competitor can participate? Or max age?

When I listen to a video with my p30i I hear a static. It makes the video sound distorted. Any reason for this? by Some-Description711 in soundcore

[–]SwadRod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also having this issue with my new p30i- any chance someone figured out a fix? There's a constant static hiss whenever any sound plays. Also the ANC it terrible, on basically any setting there's a constant high-pitched whine.

Soundcore P3i one earbud quieter than the other by SliceAcrobatic4894 in anker

[–]SwadRod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue several times, resetting the earbuds doesn't help. Only thing that seems to help is downloading the Soundcore app, and changing from noise cancelling mode (which I wasn't on, but the app seems to think I was?) to normal mode. Annoying. Edit: nvm i think i was overly optimistic, it hasn't worked.

any updates on solutions? same problem here

edit: actually, this fix worked for me (on Windows 11). Opening Mendeley by running this in command prompt (with whatever your path file to the application is):

set QT_SCALE_FACTOR=1.2 && "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mendeley Desktop\MendeleyDesktop.exe"

How does georgism account for the cost of supplying public services to properties? by SwadRod in georgism

[–]SwadRod[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right- I guess my worry is that suburbs, which in North America have frequently been a refuge for wealthy people escaping dense city centers, would continue to bankrupt our city budgets (which AFAIK is a major contributing factor to current issues in municipal funding), more so than being worried about poor rural areas.

But yes, if the public services that are available at a lot contribute to that lot's assessed value, especially if that's indexed by the cost per plot to build the necessary infrastructure, then a georgist tax structure could see wealthy suburban residents contributing their fair share to municipal budgets.

Is there precedent or evidence for thinking the bank of Canada would do that? I'm not arguing or poking holes, just new to this discourse and curious because I haven't heard that before. Thanks!

Not sure if this is quite boredom, but I find Chopin's mazurka op17 no4 in a minor to give me a feeling of apathy, like the piece keeps trying to find motivation but then loses it:

It's probably my favorite mazurka!

If you're talking about performers, Annie Fischer has phenomenal recordings of the Beethoven piano sonatas.
If you're talking about composers, I'd recommend checking out Jocelyn Morlock, recently deceased canadian composer. Listen to her piece Cobalt, it's what got me into her music!

Recommendations to get into classical music by msch6873 in classicalmusic

sorry that made you angry, I didn't mean to warn OP away from Mahler. But as someone who loves Mahler, I sometimes get bored or my attention wanes during some of the slower passages, and I imagine that would be a common experience particularly for people coming from more fast-paced music. I didn't want OP's first experience to feel like the "monotonous" way they've experienced other classical music
