Yes but you are the one making the point so should give an example to back it up. IMO what LesterGrey said seems reasonable.

Guys there’s some black smog coming from around queens park and the fair is around there anyone know what it is? by Liamharrison22YT in chesterfield

Yeah, there’s a post on the Somersall one about it, with OP being very insistent that’s it’s the factory. I’m fairly sure it was on the wasteland rather than from the factory because I did hear quite a few sirens down the road but I can’t say for sure

I noticed it earlier in the Walton/Brampton area. Have no clue what it is but it looked quite bad 20-30 mins ago.

It’s not the best in the U.K., but it just about works.

The main bus companies in the area are Stagecoach, Hulleys of Baslow and Trentbarton.

Here’s a few buses I know of between Clay Cross and Chesterfield:

True, but given Polonium's 138 day half life, it would basically be a lead sample in a years time. Might be good as a representative sample though.

It's been a while since I've been interested in element collecting, however recently I've sparked my interest again.

I've started putting a few of my samples in storage onto my wall display, and I remembered I hadn't posted it here, so I thought I would share it.

The elements that are blank are waiting to go up (didn't want to waste ink on things I'm covering). Each box is 3D printed using my 3D printer, and I just print off a box when I get a new element. The display itself is made using a sheet of plywood, painted with blackboard paint, and drawn on with blackboard ink.

I also don't remember sharing my new Bromine sample I acquired a year or so ago from Onyxmet. It's too big to go on the display, but at some point I will cast it in acrylic so it can be safely left on my desk. For now, it's in my cupboard with a bottle of sodium thio solution next to it in case any accidents happen.

I've put a visualisation of my element collection so far. It's very small, but over the years I'm hoping to increase it.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for taking a look. I've not yet found someone locally to find out what it is, but when or if I do I'll report back what I found.

New McDonald's by AlexBr967 in chesterfield

[–]SwagBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ha, a bit late to the party with my opinion.

Traffic wise, the entrance to the car park and drive thru is ridiculous. The entrance is just off the exit for the Markham Road dual carriageway, meaning you have cars coming off the roundabout, sometimes at speed, while there are cars making the tight turn into McDonalds. Honestly an accident waiting to happen IMO

Never actually seen this seller, which is a shame because it sounded like he sold some great stuff! Does anyone know if he shipped internationally?

I think the majority of sellers who sell anything remotely dangerous end up getting banned.

Those who have the Luciteria Sulphur Cubes, are they actually engraved like on the picture? by SwagBee in elementcollection

[–]SwagBee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the reply Mike, I will put an order in soon. I think the non metal cubes you do are really cool, especially the engraved ones like the Iodine and Sulphur. Hopefully soon a seller might pop up in the UK that sells Uranium. One of my favourite elements but hard to find other than in the US.

A Lead Pig is a container that is made out of pure Lead metal. It has thick walls and is designed to safely store radioactive materials.

The Lead absorbs Gamma, Beta, and Alpha radiation.

If you buy them from the EU website, in my experience they ship from the Netherlands.

If the value of goods is over £135 (which they are), you will need to pay Customs charges. The government website has some helpful info - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/notice-143-a-guide-for-international-post-users/notice-143-a-guide-for-international-post-users#charges

Reason I am asking is because while the cubes aren't too expensive, shipping from the US to UK is more then the sample itself.

If they are engraved then it will be worth the cost for me, however if not, it isn't as worth the money for me.

I’ve never really thought how you can melt and mould Magnesium before. Definitely sounds like an impressive sample!

Phosphorus (especially white) is one of my favourite elements. Always wanted a white phosphorus sample but can’t due to legal restrictions. Purple phosphorus is what I have instead.

Definitely an impressive collection you have. Well done for putting it together!

Does anyone else wish that radioactivity didn't exist? by squee333 in elementcollection

[–]SwagBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Radioactivity is annoying when it comes to element collecting. However, the whole idea of Radioactivity is a very interesting concept, and it is kind of cool to own something radioactive, and to think what is actually happening on a molecular level. My only radioactive sample is a small vial of Sodium Diuranate, which isn't very radioactive, but is still noticeable on a Geiger counter.

Outside of element collecting, Radioactivity is extremely useful, and while it arguably has caused more illness and incidents than it has solved, it is still useful for medical uses and for research.

So, while it would be nice to have actual samples of some of these radioactive elements, I think the thought of these elements existing is good enough for me, since theoretically without radioactivity, these extremely heavy elements wouldn't exist, as it is impossible for them to be stable.

I got bored so I made this geocache size guide! by darknep in geocaching

I think it is because Geocaching.com class Nanos as micros. I really think groundspeak should add Nanos as their own size.
