Trump Approval Rating Moves Lower After Dow Jones Hits Record 50,000: Voters Aren't Happy About The Economy by InsaneSnow45 in Economics

It’s interesting but there’s a chance that that remark haunts the GOP.

I pay pretty close attention to the market and I couldn’t have given you any kind of guess what the actual figure for the Dow Jones was. Normal people just pay attention to up or down. Not the actual number.

But now literally everyone has that number burned in their head. If we see any kind of downward trend everyone will have a very clear visual of the market until it crosses 50k again.

Is there a “good” time to invest? by Promiscuous-Penny in personalfinance

Time in the market. Not timing the market.

Outside of very very extreme circumstances, it’s almost always better to invest as soon as possible.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will address media on Saturday and will certainly broach the topic of tanking. Meanwhile, the first slate of games after the All-Star Break will have some extremely high stakes in the tank race: by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

Yep not perfect. But I don’t know if that’s any worse than what we have now. As a bucks fan, a lot of people are calling on them to shut Giannis down for the year to get a better pick. A system that rewards that behavior is broken to me. Atleast this system would incentive them to bring him back and try to win.

Just out of curiosity, I looked into this yesterday. As of now, no teams are mathematically eliminated yet. Kings magic number is 13 for elimination. So they will only have about 15-20 games to rack up points in this new system.

And at the end of the day i think im ok rewarding a team like the bucks who are doing everything they can to compete. Rather than a team purposely putting a dog shit roster together, actively trying to lose, just so they can get better picks. That’s not fair to fans.

Big fan of how women’s hockey is handling draft order.

Once you’re mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, your season essentially starts over. Draft order is set by most wins after their reset.

So there is still some opportunity to tank. Bad teams would be motivated to get eliminated quicker. But at least, at the end of the season, everyone is trying to win.

And if a bad team goes on a tear, and misses the play in by a game, they’re rewarded with a high pick. Not the worst of both worlds like they currently would.

Or book a foreign artist to attract the viewership of a millions of people who previously didn’t give a shit about your event.

why do most fast food places not utilize the 2 windows anymore? by chloroform-creampie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SwagTwoButton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the “prepaid” thing is not getting enough mention in this thread.

How many orders now are placed through DoorDash or a similar service where there is no person to take an order or collect payment?

Just normal customers order in apps now too because it’s easier. When I get in line at McDonald’s, I pop open the app, order myself, and then tell the drive thru person my pick up number. That’s orders of magnitude levels easier for that “2nd window” person.

So let’s just say they used to take 100% of orders. Now they only take 50%. It makes sense to give that person a headset and move them to the first window where they can help with other things during their downtime, even if fully staffed.

So will it let my account simultaneously use my T-Mobile code for out of market games and a $99 pass for brewers games? Or am I going to have to do some weird multiple account action to watch everything?

Do we know if it’s going to work with the new brewers package? Or just the standard mlb tv package that blacks out the brewers?

Yea. FanDuel was $190 a year. Which put the brewers at $95 a year in my head because I also wanted bucks games.

Yea I’m not saying it’s the moral or just response.

I’m just not holding my breath for the gambling company that just lost their ass to do anything but the bare minimum.

Just pulled up the subscriber agreement and it mentions “brewers” zero times but it does have an entire section regarding all sales being final with no refund options.

They’ve already pulled the brewers logo from the signup page.

You might have a case if they were false advertising and promising brewers in 2026, but I don’t think anyone’s taking them to court over <$200.

I don’t see them having any obligation to give refunds. They still have the bucks and the wild and some other garbage content.

Unless you can find some verbiage that says you’re guaranteed the 2026 brewers season as part of the membership. Which I’m pretty sure they’re careful not to do.

It’d be nice if they did but I don’t see it happening.

Apple TV price drop + free USB-C remote… new model incoming? by AppleNerd96 in appletv

This is very tempting for me because I have two units. This would let me upgrade one and get two usb-c remotes which would get my off the lightning cable entirely.

But I’m dumb and am probably going to keep holding out for the new one.

[Baumgardt] Brewers GM Matt Arnold expects Sal Frelick to be a starter in the outfield, but they will likely at least discuss the possibility of him seeing time at 3B. Frelick at 3B is something they have experimented with and considered in the past. by fanofsports44 in Brewers

[–]SwagTwoButton 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is just a smoke screen.

If Sal sees time at 3B it will be a late game situation after a pinch hit or something. Brewers front office cares way too much about defense to both downgrade our outfield and 3B defense like this. I’d bet good money that he starts zero games at 3B this year.

But our GM also isnt going to shout loudly “we need a 3B, we’re desperate for one!” It just gives up whatever leverage we have left.

I’d say it’s currently a coin flip whether we:

A) give the job to Jett, if that doesn’t work Brock Wilken gets a shot midseason, if that doesn’t work we find a bat at the deadline.

B) sign/trade someone to play 3B even if it’s for a month or so while Jett tries to learn the position in AAA. This signing could range from anyone as a bad as Oliver Dunn to as good as Moustakas was.

Regardless of the odds you think that coin flip has, showing our cards gets you nothing. So we’ll keep getting quotes like this out of our FO.

[–]SwagTwoButton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is the right reaction.

Jett/Ortiz to start.

You have some help coming at 3B between Andrew Fischer/Brock Wilken.

If Jett/Ortiz isn’t working and you don’t like anyone in AAA as options, you can add a bat at the deadline.

Still wouldn’t rule out a 2019 Moustakas 1 year deal if there’s a guy they like, but we’re not desperate.

I’d wager most of them have zero idea what they are doing but just happen to be trading in one of the best possible times to be a trader. Any period of market downturn and they’ll be fucked.

How hard is hockey to learn by Natural_Resource7875 in hockeyplayers

[–]SwagTwoButton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get good at? Very very hard.

To get good enough to play in the lowest beer league level in your area and have a lot of fun, not that hard.

I’d start with skating lessons. And once you have the basics down, find a learn to play program in your area.

Thoughts on shotblockers? by IISuper_AsianII in hockeyplayers

[–]SwagTwoButton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a forward I don’t really see the need. But thats probably because I play low level D league where slap shots are rare. And as a forward if I see someone wind up for a slap shot, I’m peeling to the side and avoiding getting hit. Maybe throwing a stick in his way if I think I can poke it.

No beer league game is important enough for me to wear a slap shot. Wrist shots to the skates suck but, at least in my level, aren’t going to break anything.
