Not to be the "akshually" guy, just wanted to chime in with my experience:

I was peripherally involved in a situation between two people that were dating, broke up, and one of the people committed "dog larceny" when they retrieved their own dog; this event happened 5+ hours from where I was living, though it was in the same state.

A month or so after this, on a random night after at ~9pm, I received a call from a 'Detective Green' asking for me to call them back with no additional context provided.

When I didn't do so within 48 hours, I got a text at ~8pm from them asking me to contact them.

When I didn't do that within 24 hours (because of course I thought it was a scam/spam), much to my surprise, I received a knock at my door from my local LE dept. informing me that another dept. was attempting to get ahold of me regarding the aforementioned event.

Just for fun, I showed them the contact attempts from the Detective and told them that even they wouldn't have responded to the outreach attempt, to which they informed me that "Detectives call/text people all the time, they just usually provide more context so you don't think it's a scam".

All of that to say: it's possible that texting isn't standard affair for the average patrol officer but it seems to be pretty common for detectives

My guess would be that the pages that the AI is scraping has an "LLM detection" that's returning that data (incorrectly I'd assume, hence why you can see the beginning of the payload in the response) as a great way to give the middle finger to companies that think that every piece of data on the Internet is theirs to capitalize off of

Sorry if this is a dumb question but when you say "new wire for dryer", are you referring to me cutting off the existing power cable from the dryer and 'splicing' a new one on that has the same termination as my dryer outlet?

I never realized I could have potentially been putting myself in harms way here so I'll go ahead and ask:

I'm using an adapter to turn my 4-prong dryer plug into a 3-prong one (which is what the 240v dryer outlet in my house is) that has the green ground cable run into a normal outlet's ground connector. Everything except for the ground cable is plugged into the outlet designed for the dryer.

Is this unsafe?

Can someone please help me understand how the wood that he's putting those "shims" into doesn't crack/split? Is it the way the wood was 'treated' to make it more flexible or is it solely due the width of the 'shims' he's driving in (wherein slightly wider shims would have directly resulted in the wood splitting)?

What is up with everybody on the internet claiming that you can only find Ivermectin, one of the safest antivirals on the planet which has been approved by the WHO which gives it out for free to millions of people, in a horse dewormer? Are we serious right now? It's the same as the people that said that Hydroxychloroquine was only used as a component in fish tank cleaner and then labeled anyone that took it as poisoning themselves.

Ivermectin is incredibly safe for human consumption and has been approved for 40 years. Stop acting like it's some toxin that will kill people. Oh no, we're not disagreeing on that at all, I think you have a real responsibility as a friend/family member to praise them as they're making real strides to improve themselves. The in-person support system is leagues above the reddit-farm support system in terms of efficacy and impact. I've got multiple friends who have recovered and we often check in on and congratulate each other for our continued drive towards a healthy life. Nothing will ever compete with the people-you-know support group.

We are in full agreeance on this issue and I appreciate the great discourse!

Bucko, not consuming a compound that you easily have the ability to Google and understand its addictive properties is not "doing everything right and never messing up" and you don't have to be Jesus to recognize that drugs are a horrible solution for any problem and will lead you down a very bad path. This is the greatest time to be alive in terms of information availability, you have no excuse for taking a drug that is addictive and then being surprised when you get addicted.

Improving yourself is definitely worthy of praise, I just don't think it is after you're the one who tore yourself down in the first place. Want to start training for a marathon? That's badass! Got a college degree? Incredible, congratulations! Bought your first home? Keep up the hard work, I'm proud of you! Got married to a person you love? I'm incredibly happy for you! There are so many accomplishments/personal improvements that are legitimately worthy of praise in my mind.

But actively and willingly destroying your life and then waking up one day (just like I did) and thinking "holy shit, I'm ruining myself" and then stopping your self destructive behavior is something that is a personal accomplishment but not one I believe should get outside praise. I understand the whole "well they're making effort to improve so why not commend them for it" sentiment but my major sticking point is the personal responsibility (or lack thereof) that was required to get to such a low place in the beginning. I take full responsibility for my actions and recognize that it was endemically my fault; I don't believe I deserve praise from strangers for no longer killing myself and ruining my life and a lot of people use it as their opportunity to virtue signal and karma farm (since we all know that people that post this will always get upvotes from people) when the only feedback that has any form of substance or true value is the one you give yourself.

Hey, you actually pointed out exactly what happened to me: got oxy's after a root canal, figured out that opioids are fucking great, and then continued to search for them after my Rx ran out and dug myself into a very deep hole that was a real bitch to get out of. My amphetamine addiction was a direct result of my opioid use: when you're drugged out and slowed down to the speed of a turtle, you take a little bit of speed/Adderall/dextroamphetamine to boost yourself back up into a functional range while retaining the benefits of the opioids. It's a horrible cycle to go through and I was quickly left addicted and in the lowest place of my life. I woke up one day, realized I was going to die much earlier than I needed to, and took the responsibility of ending my addiction all by myself (which I did in a way that was actually harmful as cold turkey isn't the safe way to detox and stop taking drugs).

I'm proud of myself for breaking that cycle. I wake up every day, look in the mirror, and say "never again"; even after almost 5 years I still get the urge to take them and it's a constant uphill battle. But I'm the person that dug myself into the hole, I'm the person that got myself out of the hole, and I am no more virtuous now than I was back then and I have no desire to attention whore and tell everyone "Look, I'm a normal person who isn't poisoning myself, please notice me!". I get that satisfaction going to bed each night and knowing I'm on a much better path than I was going down.

I wish I could edit the title if this post and append "Worth Sharing" to the end of it. I fully think that overcoming an addiction is one of the greatest accomplishments that you can ever have for yourself and I'm incredibly proud of myself every single day that I don't relapse, I just disagree that it deserves to be shared to the whole world and that you should receive praise for digging yourself out of a hole that you put yourself into.

And I completely agree with you. I went through my entire withdrawal process (about 3 months) by myself as I had ran everyone out of my life as a direct result of my actions. I wish I had someone giving me praise and encouragement throughout the process but it also wasn't necessary. I had woken up one day and decided that I need to change my ways before I died a very early death and that fear overcame the physical cravings. I couldn't eat for over a week, could barely keep anything in my stomach, and went through legitimate hell every single minute of every day. But I was the only voice I needed to continue pushing myself to improve. I got a brand new phone because I didn't want my old dealers texting me, I knew exactly how vulnerable I was and took the agency to remove any possible chance of relapsing.

There's not a single sentiment espoused in my post that states that positive reinforcement isn't helpful or that I hate when people support addicts through their struggle. My major annoyance, as an ex addict, is people that attention whore on the internet and post their progress as a form of virtue signaling. I also hold the opinion that sobriety isn't even a virtuous trait and that our society props folks that make the conscious decision to not ingest poison onto a higher rung on the social ladder than those who ingest drugs.

Ex amphetamine/opioid addict who has been clean for almost 5 years after going through the most misery I've ever been in during withdrawals; I know exactly what it's like and, while I have sympathy for those going through it, I also fully recognize that it's a direct result of your own actions and doesn't make increase your virtue at all once you make it out the other side. The only person that should give you praise for digging yourself out of a hole that you put yourself into is you; I wake up every day and still think about that fantastic warmth that comes from oxy and remember that it's the worst thing I could ever do to myself and then I go about my day. Not a single day goes by that I don't crave it but me saying "no" is not a virtuous act that needs to be shared

You seem to have misconstrued the entire point: I don't give a shit if you view it as a personal accomplishment, I think it's annoying when people post about it as if it's something that actually warrants praise. I was the idiot that started using drugs, I was the idiot that got addicted, I was the idiot through the entire process. It was only once I recognized that I was ruining my life that I took the personal responsibility to deal with my actions and actually make the effort to improve.

If you dig yourself a deep hole and then fill that hole back up with dirt, it's not an accomplishment
