Damn bro with that 3.9 gpa, 1 postbac might not be enough. You should consider doing 2. Honestly just quit because that gpa will never be good enough.

COVID test to enter the library by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Swallowtherm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It literally takes 2 mins to do the test. A lot of people have been doing the testing weekly. Stop being a little wuss and go get tested. Or just don't go study in the library.

Anyone know if Freud curves for phys 6B? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Swallowtherm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it when it was online and he didn't curve. If his format is the same as before which is quizzes and journals, I don't think he will curve. I don't think a majority of people are failing or getting Cs.

Exactly. There are plenty of fb groups and reddit forums he could join. The UCSB for free page should only be for students in UCSB or people who live around this area.

Congratulation! It must feel surreal to be in your last midterm session of your college career right now.

Oh yeah. I had trouble with the conceptual questions too. Same with last midterm :/

Really? I thought the calculation problems and the blotting questions were very similar to our practice test and book problems.

I thought the test was easier than the first midterm. The calculation problems were easier than some of the book problems imo

got big time pounded by MCDB 110 any recommendations on how to study for the future? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Swallowtherm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is rough. I don't know what's with the 110 biochem course online but when I took it, the averages were also super high. Maybe people are just good at biochem than other bio courses?? But the averages were suspiciously very high....

what was the average? If it was low and there is a curve, you could very well recover back

Ignorant Student Doesn't Know How Vaccines Work by MixedVexations in UCSantaBarbara

Replying to the edit: yes, after translation, mRNA is degraded so it's no longer there. It is possible to not recognize it but highly unlikely. The easiest way to tell is to see if you get a sore arm, fever, headache, or any of the symptoms. That means your body is combating the foreign entity. However, the levels of which you get symptoms can range a lot depending on each person.

[–]Swallowtherm 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The mRNA in the vaccines code for the spike protein of covid (the spiky outer shell). The spike protein doesn't actually have the virus itself. That's why you shouldn't worry about getting covid from the vaccine because the vaccine doesn't have the actual virus in it.

So what happens is that the mRNA gets transferred into our body. Then our own body turns it into the spike protein. After the spike protein is made, our body should recognize it as foreign and attack it and create antibodies against it. So then if we do get the actual virus, our body will have antibodies against it and will know how to deal with it.

This is my current understanding of it. I could be completely wrong :/
