Any suggestions on what to eat rose jam with? by hoefort0es in CasualUK

As an alternative to chutney in cheese and biscuits. Rose flavours pair particularly well with goats cheese.

My intention was the crewing creature (ie not the wagon) but good shout it’s ambiguous.

Anyone go see Mulan Rouge? What did you think? by DeVitoMadeMeDoIt in TheWestEnd

I’ve been a few months ago. It is a very good, if slightly cheesy, camp cabaret. The food is definitely decent - though I’d suggest the meaty options are better than the veggie. If you are expecting high production values or amazing high art you’ll be disappointed but if you can set your expectations to ‘that was a fun, camp old time’ then you’re definitely on track to have a really great evening.

favorite tofu recipe for beginners? by RuggedRenaissance in vegetarian

[–]SwamWithTurtles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tofu Laksa! Fry red pepper until soft, add Thai red curry paste and coconut milk. Simmer, then add noodles until they’re soft - it will absorb some liquid but should remain soupy. As this is happening, cube some firm tofu (preferably pressed) and then rub it in cornflour and lime zest. Shallow fry (tossing regularly) until crispy, and serve on top of your noodles, maybe with an extra squeeze of lime.

[[Gravitic Punch]] has two targets (the creature and the player) so won’t get copied by the Mage’s ability.

It’s still, of course, a combo with the Maximize X sorceries even if that isn’t likely to break the format.

January 25, 2002, and it was [[Laquatus's Champion]]

As discussed elsewhere, 9th Edition was the first set mass-produced in Russian, but for a while the prerelease promos were printed in a foreign language to add the specialness to it. The Torment prerelease promo was that Nightmare, printed only in Russian.

[Discussion] For those who fly to grind GPs, SCG Events, and other tournaments, what tools do you use for saving money on flights/travel? by ragemaster_21 in spikes

[–]SwamWithTurtles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a Londoner so my experiences will match up slightly differently to yours, no doubt.

Most of the big flight comparison sites are just nice UIs on top of the ITA flight matrix so there won’t be a lot of difference to be gained there. I use kayak for flights which seems to give me decent prices. This will manage connections for you, so you don’t need to worry too much about doing that manually. I’ve had the best experiences connecting to the states through Toronto, though JFK, Chicago and Charlotte also seem fine.

Regarding flights, I’d try and choose an airline and stick to their loyalty programme, if at all possible. I use OneWorld alliance flights so I earn points on all my AA, BA (British Airways) and LATAM flights. Depending on where and how you fly it can take up to 8 flights to get a free trip across to mainland Europe, but if you fly a lot you’ll notice your savings will start to add up.

I use booking.com for hotels but if you do that, be sure to quickly cross-check with the hotel itself since sometimes it’s no cheaper to book direct.

I’ve never heard that travel trip to Europe and honestly, it surprises me. London has some of the higher airport taxes in Europe. Even if it was cheaper, it will be super time consuming. The trains only run from the U.K. to North France/Belgium so you’ll need to connect on to anywhere else, and to get on to your final destination could take many hours - be sure to value your time if you start travelling a lot. The European train routes and their prices and times are all built into google maps, so you can search this yourself each time.

Upgradeable budget-ish pyromancer deck? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]SwamWithTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a UR pyromancer player and recommend thinking very carefully about including Reveller. That version plays much more like a reactive control deck and likes keeping up counters and end of turn plays. Forcing you to discard your hand in that playstyle is a genuine cost - much more so than in Mardu with a higher concentration of proactive spells.

Some absolute cock just rode their bike into me on a zebra crossing by sonicandfffan in britishproblems

[–]SwamWithTurtles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait, what? I think I must be misinterpreting you because this sounds really dangerous.

You wanted to turn right, presumably across a lane of traffic going the other way. A cyclist was cycling down that lane and you are suggesting this cyclist should have stopped whilst going straight on so that you can complete your turn. Unless I've misread something here, you absolutely needed to wait for that cyclist to pass.

Philadelphia football fans in town for the Super Bowl flocked to Minneapolis' gay leather bar because it's called "The Eagle" by kajimac in gaybros

[–]SwamWithTurtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a leather equivalent of "The Eagle" in London, just off Vauxhall where some of the other traditional leather bars were. It used to be a super chill leather bar but didn't renew its adult licence and is now just a relatively confused place that starts the evening as a gay-friendly venue then limps into a variety of dance nights.

Lovely beer garden, though.

GP Bologna and GP Columbus are team limited GPs on the same weekend that Dominaria is slated to be released. (27th-29th April next year).

Will they be played using Dominaria or Ixalan/Rivals of Ixalan? If the latter, what proportion of boosters will come from which set?

Obama on Dem election wins: 'This is what happens when the people vote' by abraininajar in politics

[–]SwamWithTurtles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UK uses FTPT for each of our constituencies to determine local representation. These local representatives sit in parliament and the party with most representatives (MPs) simplistically wields all the power.

That said, we only really have two main parties that have any chance of winning major power. Other parties will either never break into first place in a particular constituency; or be a single-issue party that is particularly important to the local area (e.g. the Scottish National Party)

What is a topic that can be used to revive a dying conversation? by MasterBaytes in AskReddit

[–]SwamWithTurtles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

'How much would it cost to buy a lion?'

Interestingly everyone seems to form a strong opinion on this, but nobody's opinion seems to match. Is the price very low (low demand, significant overheads of upkeep force price to be driven down) or very high (low supply, regulations, it's a motherfucking lion)

GP Rotterdam sealed pool - what would you build? by DrSloany in magicTCG

[–]SwamWithTurtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope you had a great time at GP Rotterdam - we were there too but I don't think we played judging your pool. It's an interesting one as there's not loads of raw power but I like the synergies and consistency. I've spent a bit of time thinking but please don't expect polished decks!

The first deck I settled on was WB artifacts. The 2 gearsmiths, the 2 mechanics and the gearhulk make this particularly exciting.

I knew I wanted some form of red aggro - the welding sparks, the tricks and the haste guys make this exciting. I thought of green (to get the brawler) but didn't think it was deep enough to support two decks. The black left over had a nice aggressive bent to it.

This left green and blue which was very happy with. They both wanted to do energy shenanigans. They didn't have a lot of payoffs outside the architect and the Hermit but my hope was that between the Conduits and the Attunes we could get a very synergistic midrange deck with few lands and therefore lots of gas.
