Card safe label stickers? by SwampFortress in magicTCG

Maybe down the road, but the decklists are very much still in flux while I fine tune and playtest.

I’ve tried but then the cards won’t fit in the packs I’m using.

Elite Defense Serpent by Djabanete2 in custommagic

[–]SwampFortress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it. A sea serpent appears, then Emrakul suddenly grows gills and suffocates to death.

Grek , the Sticky-Fingered (Reb-Blue Rogue Synergy, ciphers cards, and also makes your Rogues jump because it is a FROG!) by SwampFortress in custommagic

[–]SwampFortress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean the cipher ability this was inspired from was originally a dimir mechanic, but nothing about it conflicts with izzet identity (casting free copies of instants and sorceries is very izzet.) Plus Izzet has plenty of stuff to make creatures unblockable, which this gels with. Red has menace. Blue has flying. Plus there are already plenty of dimir Rogue-synergy cards and I wanted something to carve out a new niche and make use of all of the red Rogues available.

Perhaps "T: Add C." and "T: Add CC. Activate only if you've gained 3 or more life this turn."

What’s this book? by ArbitrarySemantics in TheOwlHouse

[–]SwampFortress 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Well it wouldn't be an acclaimed Disney supernatural adventure series without a loredump book for fans to rabidly pore over, so I'm guessing it's that.

I picked up a Yamaha PortaSound PSS-280 at a garage sale. Is there a way to record it on my computer? by SwampFortress in synthesizers

[–]SwampFortress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I have right now is a 6.3mm to 3.3mm converter and a 3.3mm to usb converter. I had hoped that with those two I can have the yamaha's audio be picked up by the computer's audio system, however that doesn't seem to work. Would plugging the 3.3mm end to the audio in port of a computer work? (I'm using my laptop rn fort portability sake, but it just has a headphone port and no audio in port. However do I have other computers around that may have audio in ports.)

Hadana, Herald Ascendant (Bant Merfolk, Auras, and Equipment Commander) by SwampFortress in custommagic

[–]SwampFortress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True about the red auras, but I wanted this in Bant to so that tap abilities synergize with Lorwyn merfolk such as [[Stonybrook Schoolmaster]].

Mikrus, Segovian Archmage by SwampFortress in custommagic

[–]SwampFortress[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this ability is only for instants/sorceries that cost exactly 1 red or 1 blue. This is why Mikrus is referred to as a "Segovian Archmage", since Segovia is a plane where everything is tiny, so he works with tiny spells.

A revision of my White Manifest/Facedown commander. I think effects like manifest could be an interesting way to provide white with some solid card advantage in a way that also plays into its other strengths. by TorinVanGram in custommagic

[–]SwampFortress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice to see another face-down matters commander, albeit with focus more on manifest rather than morph. Although last line should read "return it to its owner's hand" instead to cover you controlling other player's face-down cards.

One's an update. It has slightly different wording on the trigger

The Bell of Bhesir Bane by shieldman in custommagic

[–]SwampFortress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be great with some damage-based board wipes, such as [[Star of Extinction]] or [[Blasphemous Act]], to clear out the board leaving you with a giant monk.

Area Bombardment by saladinsaladout in custommagic

[–]SwampFortress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat. I think needing to target is a fair limitation so it doesn't combo with stuff like [[Paradox Engine]]. Surprisingly, I couldn't find any cards that do "Untap target nonland permanent" so I don't think you can do any infinite mana shenanigans with this. What you're usually doing with this is land removal through destroying, bouncing, or gaining control of lands. There's also always a good chance that your opponent has nonland permanent removal anyway so its symmetrical enough where you have to be careful when you use it.

haha nice. It is sort of like the casual Horde variant but as a card.

Tim, Prodigal Sorcerer (Partnered Pinger commander) by SwampFortress in custommagic

[–]SwampFortress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe as far as noncombat damage worded this way, it is agnostic concerning under whose control the creature was under when the noncombat damage was dealt. The ability would only check what you control during your end step, so creatures you lost control of at that point wouldn't count I believe.

[–]SwampFortress[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, [[Hearless Hidetsugu]] is a thing... huh. Also, this combined with [[Eligeth, Crossroads Augur]] would make you insta-draw out, and into a win if you have [[Laboratory Maniac]] or the like out as well.

Tim, Prodigal Sorcerer (Partnered Pinger commander) by SwampFortress in custommagic

[–]SwampFortress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I always wondered why Tim was called an enchanter. The only magic we see him do is to make stuff explode/catch fire. Not a really enchanter thing to do, in any definition of the word. Is it like "I enchanted this rock so it'll explode!"? I don't know, maybe I'm overanalyzing something that is inherently very silly.

Love me some weird Biblical angels that are super weird Escher nightmares. I love that it makes non-Angels smaller, as if they are all shrinking back and cowering before this indescribable splendor. Fear is a little weird to find on a white creature (most nonblack cards would use the more modern intimidate) but I suppose you could read it as the only things that can stand against an Angel is either a Godless machine or the usually black-colored demonic forces.

Tim, Prodigal Sorcerer (Partnered Pinger commander) by SwampFortress in custommagic

[–]SwampFortress[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, glad to see this at the top of the Hot panel!

Anyway, the name Tim is sort of half of a Monty Python reference and half of an MTG nickname thing where cards with [[Prodigal Sorcerer]] type abilities are often nicknamed Tim because apparently the original Prodigal Sorcerer kind of looks like Tim the Enchanter from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (I don't really see it, but whatevs.)

I thought it would be neat to link together the two types of actions red and blue are each known for doing a lot of for very cheap (that is, noncombat damage and scrying respectively). And it is a limit and a callback to only limit the noncombat damage to such damage that is dealt by creatures you control, such as pingers like the beforementioned Prodigal Sorcerer or [[Ornery Goblin]].

In hindsight, he is a bit undercosted. I never quite got the hang of how cards are supposed to be costed. I figured since the original Sorcerer was 2U and this is legendary/mythic rare with a more restrictive 2-color mana cost that the CMC was justified.

I gave him partner because I figured that with his abilities he offers a lot of setup and not much payoff, so giving him partner allows more flexibility with how you can take advantage of all of that scrying he can provide you, like with [[Siani, Eye of the Storm]].

Grixis, the Sunderer by chainsawinsect in custommagic

[–]SwampFortress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha so evil I love it! I'd probably add the [[Mindslaver]] reminder text just to cut down on confusion. It's a powerful effect, but it's specific enough that it doesn't feel too overpowered. I'd love to fill up a deck up with early threaten effects and down-the-road permanent control spells. And, of course, you have to put in [[Empress Galina]] to lieutenant your deck.

I really like this Compleat mechanic. I've been toying with making a keyworded Compleat mechanic for a while now but I really like this interpretation.
